There's a house in Discovery Bay right on the main channel that has an in-water swimming pool as part of their dock.

Yeah, I see it every time that we go in & out of the development.

Our onboard guests always get a kick out of it. It's been there for qute some time.

With the current water conditions of Disco Bay, I don't blame them for putting a pool in it to swim... [:-yuck] [xx(] [:-shake] [:-skull]
 
yeah, but is the rest of the Delta really any better?
 
Not by much, but actually, last summer we took some of our neighbors for a day trip and ended up wanting to go for a quick dip after having lunch at Tower Park. We dropped anchor in the Mok above T.P. and were surprised to notice how much clearer the water was up there. It was a little cooler, too. Made sense, since it was further north and somewhat closer to the runoff.

We also notice the difference when we anchor out for a few days for the Hilton fireworks. Jumping into the river with a bar of soap is my preferred way of bathing while on the hook. Well, during the warmer weather anyway... [8D]
 
you are probably right about clearer further north

We used to anchor in Mildred Island. Seems to get a fair amount of current through there, but still pretty dirty. Didn't stop us from swimming althoug hmy wife was not crazy about getting in
 
Also, most of our guests are actually surprised when we tell them that we swim in the Delta. Most figure that it is not safe to get in. They like to see the bottom like they do in their pools. I always (jokingly) tell them that they probably wouldn't want to see the bottom of most of the Delta! [:O] :D

I was n a ski club years ago on the Delta. We had a course in a small slough. The buoys were enchored on the bottom with bungee conencted to steel fence posts hammered down. If you dislodged one you were responsible for attaching a new one. It was failry shallow so you did not have to go down far, but you had to stick your arm down into the bottom almost up to your shoulder to reach some of the posts. Yuck!
 
Yikes! I'd pay someone a pretty penny to do that job!

Back in the early 70's, we leased a lot on King's Island. We had a Terry travel trailer on it and enjoyed the weekends there. As I recall, there was a water ski club that was based on the island. Was that yours?
 
I'll have to look up King's Island. I was in Diablo Ski Club. Not sure if they are still around. Berekely Ski club had a course and there were a couple others as well around the Delta

edit: I think Berkeley ski club is near King's Island
Diablo is off Holland Tract
 
Yeah, I remember seeing ski bouys on the back side of Coney Island. I always just figured that those were the ones that the group from King's Island used.

King's Island is just north of the forebay on Old River. Most of the tenants kept their boats at the Lazy M marina and drove their boats to the island. The island is actually connected by a levee road, but you could only drive a vehicle to it twice a year with permission from the King.

I recall hearing of the Diablo Ski Club years ago.

That's good to hear. So many things from the "good 'ol days" seem to disappear into the sunset...
 
yeah - I miss being on the hook in the Delta. We have our boat in SF now. Still have a ski boat in Disco Bay, but no longer staying overnight.
I especially miss the sunsets

I too miss the Delta. I loved being out on the hook and enjoying all of nature that the Delta has to offer. Many many wonderful memories! Some of my favorite anchorages: Apple Orchard in Mildred; Lindsay Slu off of Cache Slu; near Liberty Island; a nameless slu off of Franks Tract; and cruising with several of my boating friends to assorted places like Stockton Marina, Paradise Marina, Tower Park, Moore's Riverboat, Benicia Marina, etc, etc.
