I try to make it a habit of scanning the visa bills as they come in. 90% of the time, it's all good but this week, there was an error. I just noticed tonight that I was charged twice for a gas purchase on the Hudson.

I'm sure it was just an honest mistake or clerical error. I'll call tomorrow to talk to a manager and report back here.

So be careful, mistakes do happen...as if gas isn't expensive enough...charging double at these outrageous prices.

Hey, thanks for paying for my gas, Chris!!!

Seriously, that had to hurt seeing THAT bill! Good luck sorting it out...

I understand that this is the newest fraud scam, so everybody should take Chris's advice and look at your bills for similar charges.

This happened to me once on the road in NJ. I've always checked my bills...........it only takes a minute and you never know what you'll find there.

I had a similar experience about 3 years ago at a Restaurant. Seems the waitress swiped my card twice. The first time she did it she trasposed the odd cents when she entered the amount and when she noticed it instead of reversing that transaction she simply swiped the card again and put in the correct amount. Needless to say....When my statement came I had BOTH Charges. I called the Restaurant and asked to speak to the Owner/Manager and got some snotty Lady that HAD to know what I wanted before she could transfer my call and when I told her she insisted that "HER" girls don"t make those kind of mistakes. So I got in my car and drove the 26 miles to the Restaurant and after about a half hour of arguing with some other lady who never identified herself as a manager or anything else but wouldn"t let me talk to anybody else finally looked at the sales records for the day in question and came back to me with a Credit Slip and all sorts of apologies saying that she couldn"t understand HOW that could have POSSIBLY happened. So I pointed out the differences in the charges in the amount and explained to her what had happened. Simple....The girl that originally swiped the card didn"t know how to enter a credit for the incorrect amount....pocketed the tip twice because it was in both transactions..( seems to me it was about 45 or 50 bucks ) ....Strange thing was that I was there again about a week later and she was no longer employed there.

MY BAD! I called, they investigated and realized, while indedeed, I was charged twice, I was credited the same day. Sure enough, go to the "credits and adjustments" portion of the bill and it was there. I would have thought a credit would be with the charges...not so.

All's well that ends well! I'm just happy I didn't tell you guys the name of the marina.

it also helps if you actually balance he bill (in something like Quicken).

Most of these get caught automatically by the CC company - but not all.
