Check your slips for debris - no water in bay

There is no water in bay.
Checked my slip.
No debris.
Good time to do it if you need to.
 
How often does that happen? What if your boats in its slip?
 
Well we have had some strong West NW winds which blows water out of bay.
It's low tide.
Moon is almost full.
And it's winter.
We normally see low water in winter.
If you were in slip, you would just be careful.
There is still 2 feet of water or more in slip and more where props usually are.
 
I am guessing then you don't see this during the boating season? No wonder you guys are all out of the water in winter.
 
John, winter tides suck ! Bad enough the sand box is only 5-6 feet in most places ( in the channel ) winter tides are of that

Makes me appreciate the 20 or so feet of water under my boat. I try no to go anywhere that does not show at least 6 feet at mlw.
 
We would al be dock mary's on the south shore of Long Island if we're looking for 6ft. It's what your used to I guess.
 
Since I draw 5 I like to have the extra foot in case of debris on the bottom etc.
 
Thats why I love running the flats with my center console. Less boats, and a lot more fun.

Its a whole new world when running the flats. Its great when you are running the channel and see 5ft under you and once I head outside of the channel and I see 4ft, 3ft, and then no depth, look over and see the bottom as clear as day...
 
As bad and as scary as it sounds, its not bad when you know your area. Its also a soft mud/sand bottom.
 
A club I have no desire to join. There will be no cutting channels for me this year.
The good news is if I do get in trouble I can go sideways to get out of it. Lol.
 
Unless you knock them off. In which case you go no-ways:-)
 
It takes alot to knock them off and doubt mud or a soft bottom would do it.
Rocks or submerged objects yes, but that would mess up any propulsion system.
 
I was just down at the AYC this afternoon and caught it during another very low tide. Looks like there is a 5' bench sitting in the slip I rent...who knows what else is down there. Anyone know if the marina has plans to clean out the slips?
 
I hear they were going to do something. Diver or Dredge.
Meeting on 2/21, I can't go. If you are a owner you should go.

I plan to throw a grappling hook into my slip just to see, but I didn't see anything.
 
So far the water alongside my bulkhead looks clear. I did notice something sticking up near the entrance to the canal a few weeks ago. Not sure about the rest of the canal, but there was plenty of traffic up and down after the storm, and the early season fishermen should be heading out regularly in another 3 or 4 weeks, so they'll probably notice anything in the way.
