I'm going to post this here as this is where we boat from (the Chesapeake that is). We're back in Florida and looking to head back over to the Abacos, Bahamas for a little bit. I'm working on trying to organize our personal boating website, which is at:

http://www.undock.com

That's got links to this year and last year. For this year we're trying a "blogging approach" which can be found directly here:

http://mc30deuce.blogspot.com/

We just had dinner with BoaterEd member DeeRows (Mark) who I met last year here in Stuart, FL. who showed up at the local boat ramp saying: "Hi Kurt, I'm Mark from BoaterED and I read you'd be here so I came to help." Wow, does life get any better!?!?!?!

Aw, Kurt.. shut-up will ya!! It's been raining for a week here, a lot of flooded roads and cranky people.... and you want to tell us about heading back to the Bahamas. Man, you're killin' us!!!!

All that said, have a great cruise and stay safe.

Kurt hope you have a great trip. Mine unfortunately was at least delayed until next year. Currently selling all my trip gear, watermaker, Navionics chips, Explorer Charts and chartbooks, as well as an Air X wind turbine on e-bay.

Mike - We're hoping our house in Carroll Co. isn't floating away! However, it's been nothing but upper 80's and sunny since we got here to FL.

Dominic - Why sell that watermaker? You can make at least 3-4 gallons off the Chesapeake before the thing clogs up! :-)

(I'd offer to take those Explorer Charts from you, but the new "Near Bahamas" version comes out in another week...dang it!)

Hi Kurt, the weather looks great for your crossing over the next few days. Lots of SW winds with 2 ft or less seas. We are planning to head over in early July, but it takes a little more planning now. We brought our new to us 50 ft Viking Sport Cruiser home to the Chesapeake a week and a half ago. She ran great for the 300 mile run from Long Island up the Delaware and home. We are planning to head down to FL in mid June. Stop half way and come back a week or two later and finish the run south and continue straight on to the Abacos. We will have 2 weeks to spend in the Abacos and then leave the boat in FL for a second Bahamas trip before bringing her back to the Chesapeake.

It is a little more complicated now but we cant wait to head to the clear waters. With two kids, my wife and I, we are looking forward to doing the trip in a larger boat. I have a lot of navigation planning and learning over the next month or so. Best of luck on your crossing and trip. We are going to spend most of our time between GTC and Elbow this year.

Kurt -

Have an awesome trip! Looking forward to reading about it!

Take lots of photos.

Rick - Wow, that's a big boat! Enjoy. Just check that insurance for coverage down here in July/hurricane season!

Glenn - New pics posted on the blog today (see first post). Hoping to cross tomorrow morning! We'll see. The backup plan of cruising the Keys for a few weeks ain't to bad either! :-)

Bumpy crossing today, but we did it. We were grilling dinner at West End and talking to the hired captain of the big sport fisher next to us. He's been on the water in FL and the Bahamas all his life and replied to us when we said where we're from:

"The Chesapeake!?!?! The mouth of the Chesapeake is one nasty piece of water!"

So as bumpy as it was crossing today, we've had worse south of the Potomac. Although the water here is a lot better looking!

Check my blog updates linked above if you're interested (or very bored).

How's West End doing? I haven't been in there for about 8-9 years. I hear its really been built up again.

Were you here when it went by a different name or after the Bahamian government took it over and named it Old Bahama Bay? It's very nice now. The marina is in great shape and the rest of the place is a top-notch resort (http://www.oldbahamabay.com). However, it's EXPENSIVE. $3.05/ft on weekends, $10 for water, $.50/ft for power, all with a 40-foot minimum. Thus, this will be a one-nighter for us. We'll spend the next few at anchor at some of the out islands.

It was Old Bahama Bay at that time but sort of rustic. Small marina, the Jack Tar Resorts was closed down and the Conch-burgers were served on plastic tables and chairs in a small picnic area near the customs office. It was great!

Kurt, the pictures look great we are still working on getting out of N.J. but I can't ever seem to get away from the one eye's monster I own my business. Have a great safe vacation. Bill

We've made it to Green Turtle Cay (a great run from Great Sale today):

Great Sale Cay (anchor only): http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=26.9909,-78.2154&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1

Green Turtle (drink much only): http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=26.7815,-77.3364&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1

Green Turtle Club (Marina): http://www.greenturtleclub.com

$2.00/ft. $.25/gallon water. What the heck, it's VACATION!

And I'll finally post my ugly mug. Here's a pic of me at Green Turtle Club:
