Not much longer now, usually start with a shakedown cruise in mid-April.

Last 5+ years I've spent mostly on the Sassafras, Fairlee Creek, Worton, Elk River section of the bay - with some trips over to the Western Shore. But with the sale of our big boat, now with the freedom of trailer boating I'd like to get to some new-to-me water. Most obvious is the Chester River; about I'll I've seen to date is the view from the deck at the Red Eye.

Looking for good spots to take kids water skiing/tubing without annoying anchored boats & homeowners, spots to beach, decent ramps with parking, etc. - the farther north the better I suppose. I have the Ches Bay cruising guide, but looking for more first hand stories. thanks.

alk, come to Still Pond Creek. Skiing is good and popular with the neighbors, free ramp (its private but you have a connection ;) , no nettles, limited traffic. Not only that but your family can shower and get cleaned up here at our house. All of the "public ramps" require a county permit to use which costs $60. The only marina on this end of the Chester River with a ramp outside of Rock Hall is the Chestertown Marina.

Thanks mike. Before the kids were old enough to ski we used to hit the beach at still pond at least three or four times a year, but probably haven't been back in the creek since 2008 or so. Never occurred to me to ski back there, not too many anchored boats that we would be rocking?

Last summer we mostly tried behind knight island which was only skiable in the very early morning or late afternoon due to crowds, and on the sassafras past the drawbridge which was usually pretty good. But after spending 6 years on that river with a slip, ready to see some new water. Will absolutely keep still pond on the list, but really want to spend some time on the chester, just not sure where.

Chester river boat ramps can be found easily on ActiveCaptain. The river is nice and wide from Langford Creek to Reed Creek and towards the Narrows. Out in that part of the river you're only going to find watermen and recreational boats underway.

I have to reference one nice weekend last season when we anchored well inside of Reed Creek. Everything was perfect as we were the only boat and the water was flat calm. But right as I was grilling dinner the PWCs showed up and started to buzz us. No reason to do so except to be jerks.

Yes, Mike, I do seem to attract some of the worst behaved people in the world. Perhaps the sight of my catamaran makes them angry or something (like Uncle Buck's hat)? I'll be interested to see how boating goes in the trawler.

Alk, once you get out of the no wake zone inside Still Pond Creek there are no anchored boats to disturb other than a little are about a mile in where all my neighbors anchor and set up a volleyball net in the shallows. They are all skiers as well and the two summer camps teach skiing back there. If you come back that way on a weekend you are more than welcome to join us. BTW, politics never come up on the water :)

Oh, BTW, my neighbors are not the ones who were bustin' on Kurt. We don't hang out near the cut or in the no wake zone. Those are the rich neighbors.

Only "rich" in idiocy, Mike, otherwise they're stupid in decency :-)
