There have been some tickets given recently to dingy owners that do not have life jackets in the boat. The excuse that they are right over there in my other boat and I will get one right away, does not work--$90 citation.
Don't know if it a Bay decree or not?? just info for future.

This reminds me of a story I heard. A couple guys were in a dink with no PFDs. They saw a water cop off in the distance handing out tickets to other dink users at some popular party cove. The two guys saw the water cop working his way toward them (but the cop hadn't seen them yet). So, before the water cop got too close, the two guys got in the water and swam alongside the dink. The water cop couldn'/t ticket them, as it's not illegal to swim without a PFD.

Riding in dink without PFDs aboard: Illegal
Swimming alongside the dink and pushing it along without PFDs: Perfectly legal

Motorized Dink = Motorboat. From Title/Registration on up.

Not sure what your point is.?? What does whether or not it is called a "motorboat" have to do with anything? You either have PFDs aboard, or you don't. Even "non-motorized" canoe operators are required to have PFDs aboard. Motors have nothing to do with it.

And swimmers aren't required to have PFDs.

i think his point is that when you are operating a dink, you need to make sure you are legal... registration, sticker, numbers, PFDs, etc...

i always have 8 PFDs in mine, just in case we pick up one or two extra passengers...

couple of years ago at Columbus Day Regatta (so fl big water party) we were returning to the boat when about 200 yars away my gf and a friend of hers decided to jump overboard and swim back. a few seconds later a CG boat not far away turned on their lights and approached, thinking they had jumped overboard because i didnt have enough PFDs... so... "hiding" in the water wont' work...

Pascal, That was my point. We've seen cases where people "self register" their dink by giving it the mothership's name or number with a suffix or word game like mothership is LEADER and they buy a dink and label it FOLLOWER thinking that's all there is to it.
Glen, Sorry if that was unclear. Check with Harlan. He'll tell you I can be a litte strange. Still lovable though...

yeah, many use T/T xxxxxxx it works to some extend but sooner or later you're going to get a ticket or warning. although, at least in Fl., if you register the dink and then go to court with the registration they'll dismiss the case... not worth the hassles though...
