Cleaning scum line over bottom paint.

My boats bottom was painted last spring with Petitt Horizons Black and my boat is currently pulled. After pressure washing I have a greenish stain at the water line over the paint. I want to clean this scum off but dont want to loose the paint that exists. Can this be cleaned or do I need to repaint this area? Any suggestions appreciated. BigGrin :)
 
Ablative? If so, I wouldn't mess with it. It'll wash off. If hard paint, your problem may be larger than a green line.
 
Ablative - leave it alone like mentioned. If it's hard, probably depends on where you boat- salt? Fresh?

I have black epoxy, and boat in fresh/brackish most of the time. Boat slipped in mostly fresh. Anyway, I have "The line" too, and each spring, I go over that area with a scrub brush, then apply a diluted mixture of paint, so not to build up that particular area with too much paint - but still get some protection. Also makes the boat look sharp and freshly painted. If you are in salt water, you would want more protection from growth.
 
I have the same problem and think it is the copper "in" the paint oxidizing as opposed to a scum line. If you scrub it off, you'll be taking the protective copper with it.
 
Thanks for those comments. Yes, this paint is Ablative and I run in the Chesapeake Bay so it is in salt as well. I would like to have that "Fresh Paint" look. So how does one "dillute" this ablative paint and run another coat at the water line? Thanks again, BigGrin
 
I just paint it with a thin layer of fresh ablative. I also touch up other spots as needed.
 
A sponge roller works well for an even thin coat. I do it every year on my boats. We call it "putting a smile on the boat".
 
I was recommended a little Muriatic acid by a boat dealer, spray lightly and either scrub with rags or brush and wash off with water. Wear all protective gear and have the water ready for rinsing. It work weel for me without any damage to the hull or waterline. All with proper Care!
