I just had to replace one of two the vacuflush pumps on my boat and I noticed alot of scale build up inside the old pump and the hoses. Is there any chemical that can be poured down the toiled that will cleanout the hoses/vacuum tank/etc without hurting the seals/duckbills in the pump. Thank you in advance

I can't help you but the people at Northeast Marine Sanitation have been very helpful when I have called them on Vacuflush issues (and to buy parts) in the past. Their number is 631-752-7606.

Thank you, do I just pour into the bowl and flush the toilet and let sit for a while or something else?

Depends on what you use and how encrusted the hoses are. Vinegar or Barnacle Buster I'd leave in over night. Sno Bowl, a couple of hours maybe.

What ever you use you need to use enough to get all though the hoses.

Thanks again I'm going to use the stuff called SEW Clean made by barnacle buster. I just ordered, should have by the weekend.

John, it works pretty good; we've been testing it in our repair shop here in the plant.

Vic does barnacle buster kill the KO microbes?

I used a Vinegar treatment twice a year. Also periodically clean the bowl seal with the provided tongue like depressor and lubricate with dish washing liquid oe SeaLand's lubricant. I would pour an entire 1 quart bottle in the head after flushing the head then let the vacuum pump run unt il it shuts off. Next I would turn the power off to the pump then push the pedal down (I would have about the bowel half full of water with the quart of vinegar) and then let it sit in the pump/integrated tank for a few hours. Refill the bowel as well. Then I would turn the power back on and hold the pedal down letting about 2 gallons of water to wash through to the holding tank. My VacuFlush is only 2 years old and I have never had odors or problems with it. Well a minor one with it clogging when a certain person did #2 in it. I am replacing it with the Elegance fresh water flush from Raritain. So I may have a practically new VacuFlush system for sale after I try the new Raritan head for a few weeks. Vic I owe you a write up comparing the two heads. Then the VacuFlush and vac-generator/vac-tank will be for sale (cheap complete with 2 sets of duckbills). I really liked my VacuFlush system. I hope the Elegance is as nice it sure looks like a well built product.

Bill,

Why are you replacing your head? Is it bigger? I hate mine because it is so small. I generally only use it to get rid of previously consumed beer. Otherwise, it is for emergencies only. Just too small. And I am only 5' 8" 165.

Bruce, I don't know about Barnacle Buster; we've been testing SEW-CLEAN in our repair shop, to get rid of scale and mineral buildup in the hoses.

Vic, what would recommend as a procedure for using Sew-Clean in an old style vacuflush (separate tank and pump) ? Short of completely filling the holding tank, vac tank, hoses, pump and bowl I do not see how I can get the stuff everywhere.

There is an entire thread why. My better half has real problem with her #2s and this new head has a shredder that should eliminate the problem. Also where the vacuum pump/tank used be I can now install a PuraSan and integrate it with the Hold-N-Treat controls. I have a Lectra-San never used I just don't like the amperage they pull compared to the Pura-San.

Fred, I don't have enough personal info on Sew Clean to give you any sort of intelligent answer. As the others have said, white vinegar has been used for that purpose for years and years. But it isn't a magic cure; you don't do it once and Presto - everything's clean. It takes time. You should add it weekly - pour a cup (8 oz.) into the toilet bowl and let it work its way into the tank. The vacuum pump will then pump it the rest of the way when you flush the toilet. If you have a severe buildup inside the hoses, they may have to be replaced.

Capt Bill1 I Just want to thank you again for the recommend on the barnacle buster. The Sew Clean worked great, cleaned the whole system out.
