I have a very slow shower drain, and I know the hose from the shower pan to the shower sump is probably pretty thick with gunk. The problem is that I can't get to the bottom of the shower pan to just replace the hose - and I'm wondering if there's something that I can put through the hose or into it (I can plug up the sump end so it can soak) that will help clear the congestion but won't harm the hose.

Ideas?

Plug the end.

Drain Cleaner:
For slow drains, use this drain cleaner once a week to keep drains fresh and clog-free.
1/2 cup baking soda
1 cup white vinegar
1 gallon boiling water
1/2 a used lemon
Pour baking soda down drain/disposal, followed by vinegar. Allow the mixture to foam for several minutes

Unplug the end before flushing the drain with boiling water.

Boiling water is probably too dangerous on a boat. If your boat's hot water heater is anything like mine, the output may as well be boiling. You could use that instead.

Nice thing is you can pump it all over the side as its all natural.

The preceding is for homes. Once or twice a season should be plenty for a boat.

Get a test tube brush or a long skinny tubular brush (like the kind that is used for refrigerator cooling fins) and run it in & out of the hose several times. A cloth swab on the end of a wire snake might work too.

I ended up replacing both my shower sump hoses as well as the sump. My original hoses were the ribbed type, plain old bad engineering in my opinion, I replaced with smooth walled sanitation hose. It was hard to reach the drain in the shower and bathroom floor. I have a Mainship what type of boat do you have?

Try a snake-from either end. I always kept an old shift cable around for just that.

You can also try putting several squirts of "CP - Cleans Potties" down the drain, for several days. It will dissolve soap scum, hair, and all the other stuff that accumulates in your drain lines.

Add it the last thing at night, before you go to bed, so it'll have several hours to work before it gets washed away.

At lot of the stuff that clogs is hair. To prevent the hair from going down the drain, unscrew the drain cap and place a piece of fiberglass window screen cut into a circle to fit into the opening and screw the cap back on. When the drain runs slowly, replace the screen. Once you have the hose clean, pour some bilge cleaner down the drain once a week. I've been doing this for 3 years with this boat and it seems to work fine. We use the shower a lot without issues.

i find it hard to see how shower "gunk" can clog those hoses, have you checked the shower sump inlet and screen ?

few weeks ago I replaced a section of hose on one of mine to fix a leak (seems like the hose had been butchered years ago and fixed) and the inside of the hose was fine. no idea how old it was, but it must have been 10, 15 years old at least.
