I posted this in Ask the captain but got no hits. I should have poet here. We plan to spend a night (Sat night) on the hook and was wondering where the best place to anchor. Also is there a town dock we can dock and walk around and one last question does Rams Inn also have a dock so we can have dinner?

Thanks

Gary

Not sure where to anchor, but I think there is a designated anchorage.

There is no town dock that I know of in that harbor. Dering harbor has a town and is near town. Maybe tie up there walk around, eat and then head to coeciles for the night.

Rams head inn has moorings but you need your own dink.

The marina/boat yard in Coeciles is where the shelter island runabout is built and soem real nice classic boats are kept there. This time of year I would think you could tie up at the gas dock (and buy gas of course) and be able to take a walk around the dock and yard.

Have a good trip.

Yes, they are nice folks at that marina and it has a pool too. Plus a bus that runs you around to drop off points (at least in the summer). The boatyard is also an authorized Hinckley repair location, hence accounting for some of the nice boats there.

Very nice people, the also have an electric car you can rent (cheap) to tour the island.

Our favorite spot on Shelter Island is the nature preserve. Lots of wild critters to look at, and you can hike around in there for hours.

Thanks for all the info but we didn't go on sat because of small craft warning. We want to MATT A MAR instead because it is only a hour run. Great info for next year.

Walt,
They stopped renting the electric cars2 years ago. Apparently it brought in too many tourists....

Rob.........they may have just stopped renting them to you. :) :) :)
