A few years ago, I asked about 12 volt coffee makers for boats. I would love to have one but most reports said they didn't work that well. Anyone have one that works well

If you have 30 minutes for 1/2 a cup of luke warm coffee then they are great. Otherwise stay far away.

Three threads and Rommer is sticking to his answer I would stay away from them!

When we travel south on the 5, we always make a pit stop at the T/A Truck Stop in Buttonwillow. I stretch my legs by using their head and walking their isles. It amazes me how many CB's are still manufactured and sold at these truck stops.

Anyway, without paying much attention, I have noticed 12V coffee makers as well as other household items that are designed for 12V use. I don't know if the brand is "their" brand or an actual MFG, but I recall the brand as Pro-Road or Road-Pro?

I would guess that if the truckers didn't care for the brand, it wouldn't still be on the shelves.

I noticed the brand name, "Diesel" on a wall full of electronic gadgets for the truckers like CB antenna's, mic clips, external speakers, etc...

Again, I don't think they would still be selling the stuff if it wasn't up to truckers specifications.

Another alternative is to get one of those inverters that plugs into a lighter socket and then use a standard 110V coffee maker. As long as the wattage/power usage doesn't exceed the rating of the device, it should work.

I got my son one of those type of inverters for his Jeep and he seems happy with the few times that he used it while tent camping.

Good luck!

I believe I have an inverter. I bought a device that fits into a lighter socket that allows you to plug in a normal electrical plug.....this I have used to charge my phones and iPad. I think it's a big drain on the batteries but if you make your coffee while the engine is running, you would be fine...thanks BAB

You'll need an inverter that can do at least 650 watts and more likely 1000 watts. A 1000 watt inverter is going to draw roughly 90 AMPS of power. You won't get that out of a cigarette adaptor plug. The 650 watt will need 50 amps.

Most cigarette adaptor plugs I've seen are fused at 5-20amps. You could hard wire the inverter to the battery via properly sized fuse/wires.

If you have gas cooking on the boat, an old fashioned percolator will do a great job.

That's what we do. A butane stove...french press....great coffee!

They are junk, don't waste your money.

and it was YOU GUYZ on THIS FORUM that talked me into the Keurig K Cup device.

and....

I LOVE IT !

but you would need 120 volts
