After all the years I finally got a chance to try compass cay.

Pretty interesting place. Entrance is a little intricate but decently marked and has at least 7' MLW but don't stray off in th narrow stretch before the tip of th island, after the only green. It gets skinny pretty quickly. As a precaution I ran the route int he tender first.

On the plus side, it has great protection, the docks are good and power was the best I ve seen in the Bahamas. They are currently upgrading the wiring and and putting new pedestal. They re also adding a new dock and building a restaurant which they hope to have open for the season

Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Of the negative, it s $3 a ft compared to $2 at Staniel although no big deal since you have better protection.

I still really prefer Staniel though, the bar is more fun and overall i find it more enjoyable.

The island is interesting... There are a lot of trails to hike incl. to the sound side beach. There is half destroyed house by the beach, on a rocky cliff, which has been painted and embellished with ropes and set up as a gym. Fun spot, great view.

The main attraction at the marina are the nurse sharks, they are even more friendly than at Staniel... There is a short section of dock which is jaunt about underwater at high tide for the sharks to lounge on at your feet. Fun...

I have limited bandwidth here so can't post pictures. But Facebook users can look up the "yacht charmer" page and view a bunch of pictures and clips I ve been posting there.

Bottom line, it s worth the stop but SCYC is still my all around favorite!

Compass was a great stop for us. The beach on the other side of the island is outstanding.

Great people there too.

You're right though, Staniel is more fun at the bar.

Agreed and a restaurant would be a super addition! Maybe we will check that out this Spring.

Yeah, love that place. And the beach on the Atlantic side is outstanding for sure.

True it's quieter than Staniel but it makes for a nice break from the hubbub around there. Or if you or your guests are into a quieter place in general.

At this time, hubbub is not a worry :) we were the only boat besides the electrician's and even at Staniel I haven't seen more than one or two both boats all month we ve been down here. Not a single boat sighted between here Gtown either. Yesterday finally saw the first big mega yacht anchored by twin cays.

As quiet as it can be... Kind of nice to call SCYC and be told "pick any spot you want" :)

They said it hey hoped to have it done for the season...

One last thing... The marina has a nice recycling bin setup with sign encouraging visitors to recycle... Glass, cans, paper, etc... Great to see an effort to keep these lovely islands clean.

Then while walking around the trails, I found this:

And even worst... 50 gal drums of used oil !

It's a shame to see that. We walked all over the cay when we were there and did not find that. From what we saw the cay was clean. I guess they manage to keep it all in one spot. It has to go somewhere.
