Funny typo. I was wondering what G-d? Poseidon?

Enjoy Moriches - I think the water there is some of the cleanest and prettiest on the south shore! Only down side is all the small fishing boats in the channel. Hope you don't mind escorting all of us thru the area this season :)
 
Good business for some kid.
Sit there in a skiff and escort boats through.
Get them going in both directions.
Average boater would easily pay $20 for that.
You get 30 boats a day and that ain't a bad day's pay!
I wonder what Sea Tow bills out if they do it.
When I used them, they took my card info.
But it was also dense fog that day.
 
I just re-read the posting corrected by my smartphone. "U just kept trying to make it work." That's not how I write; I'm a college professor! That's another typo; I hit the U instead of the I. Anyway,I was surprised how simple and clear the route through the cuts was. It was just a slow curve to port as I headed east. The ocean and the fishing boats in the inlet were visible as I went around the bend. (You can stop chuckling now!).Yesterday was a very calm day. I would be very, very nervous about making that trip today with the wind gusts we've been having. If the rains predicted for tomorrow don't appear, I'm going to drive out to the marina and finish the washing and waxing I began weeks ago. I want to have everything ready to go out with the Admiral next week. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, we have family obligations every weekend for the rest of the month, so boating then will not be part of the plan. But, we're in the water, and that's the important part. Hy

Jeff, When I left Radio / Media Broadcasting (Westwood One Radio) and got an IT position at a major College with a Jewish administration, I always wondered when I read various religious things at the school why they always used G-d. And when I was told why I found it very interesting. I started in 5767 and already we are almost in 5773…
 
Brad, Its been a very long time since I was 12 learning to read and write In Hebrew School. I may not remember much from my Bar Mitzvah, but the one thing that stuck is, I can not write the word. The wierd thing is, I can say it, which I don't think is accepted either, but I could be wrong, It's been a long time since Hebrew school. As for the year, you are a better man than me, I never remember the year. Sorry to hijack, we will have to start a G-d thread. :)
 
For those who don't know why G-d is written this way (which is most people), the reason is as follows: In Judaism, religious texts are treated as sacred objects, even when they are worn out and ready to be replaced. By writing the name of G-d, in full, on anything, that thing now becomes a religious text and cannot be simply discarded. It must be buried in a cemetery with a proper funeral, as if one were burying a loved one. To avoid bestowing that title, honor, and restriction on a paper which in itself is of no religious significance, the name G-d is not spelled out completely. It's a tradition many Jews and some Christians, myself included, tend to follow. So, I wouldn't have written out G-d's name; only my smartphone believed that I couldn't spell it correctly and changed GPS to G-D! Have a good week, all. PS. 5767 and 5773 are years counted on the Hebrew Calendar, corresponding to AD 2006 and AD 2012, approximately. (I couldn't resist sharing information; it's the professor in me.)Hy
 
Although I am not Jewish, but a Christen/Lutheran who may not be the most practicing person of my faith as I should, I enjoy learning about various religions history. Working at the College that I am we get most all the Jewish holidays off, so I thought it would be nice to understand why, I did a bunch of reading about the various Jewish holidays, and now I can give a brief history on many. We get days off that I had never heard of. The one issue I have this year is many fell across the weekends like Passover and now Shavuot falls over Memorial Day Weekend. So in instead of about 26 holidays including the traditional I am only getting about 21 days. Oy Vey !!
 
The Jewish answer to that would be something like: You sometimes hear some Jewish people complaining that the High Holy Days are "too early this year" when they come at the beginning of September rather than later in the month. The answer is that they can't be coming too early; they come at the same time every year! It's just that the Christian/Common calendar is out-of-sync with the "original" calendar. The Jewish calendar predates the Christian calendar by thousands of years. With that, I'll close this discussion and return to Moriches Bay. Actually, we can't go there today. It's pouring outside! Brad, your post had me laugjing out loud with your Oy Vey bring on tears. Too funny man! From now on, I am asking you when rush a homer (rosh hashana) begins and ends..
