Considering Sausalito Trip this weeken

Hello All,

Im considering a boat trip to Sausalito this weekend. If Sausalito Yacht Harbor does not have any guest slips available can anyone offer a nearby alternative?

Storm and heavy winds are predicted for Friday and Saturday, but Sunday should be lovely.
 
Liz - Just curious about the weather forecast you mention - where is it from? The one I have on the Driftwood site is ony showing a slight chance of showers Friday and Saturday. If you have a more accurate site you visit I'd like to check it out and maybe add it to our site.
 
I got my info from KCRA Ch 3 Weather. No magic wand or anything.
 
I use weather.com. 30% chance of rain in Sausalito,CA on Saturday. The forecast will get more accurate as days pass on.

Looking to dock, sight see, eat a nice seafood dinner at SCOMAs and watch a movie on the boat at night.

Then I would cook a nice breakfast on the boat and head back to Martinez Sunday morning, weather permitting.
 
That's a fine plan if it isn't windy. Boating or being tied at a dock during rain can be fun! Do you have a heater on board?
 
Schoonmaker Point is a good place to stay overnight.
They always have space available.
 
I would probably go the next weekend and try to see the KaBoom. Finding a local slip might be a challenge.

what is the KaBoom???
 
KaBoom is a huge fireworks show put on by KFOG a SF radio station. We will have a couple dozen friends out for the evening. Fireworks from the water with SF in the background is really spectacular. There will be alot of boats out though and Sausalito would be a good trek after the show is over.
 
Loch Lomond, San Rafael note.

Bobby's, the restaurant that used to be there burned a couple of years ago. There is a fine grocery store with an excellent deli serving hot food, but it is by no means a restaurant. Closest dining is probably 3 miles away, towards downtown.

If you are inclined for that, continue down the Canal to Lowries Yacht Harbor, you are better protected from the weather and a mile from downtown with several excellent choices for dining, including Bobby's new location. Nearest pumpout is Loch Lomond.

If you have a draft of more than about 3', take care going into Loch Lomond's channel at low tide, it is very easy to hit bottom, take the turn wide, no short cuts.

Thanks for the advice but I had to scrub the trip. Rain on Friday and Saturday. I will wait for a better weekend. Anyone up for baby sitting?

Nice pics - thanks! I once saw fireworks once from the water in Boston Harbor - something about a world class city in the background - it makes it extra special! The best fireworks I have ever seen by boat is the Lake Tahoe display. Like the KFOG event, it is simulcast, ie it matches the music on the radio. In Tahoe, they have 4 barges with about a 300' setback and a hugh circle of about 2000 or more boats. You can literally lay on your back and look straight up! Bad news is everyone leaves - not like Hiltons where people stay for days. 2000 boats all leave at the samt time and there are a bunch of drunken idiots - he calm lake literally turns to 5 foot chop within 5 minutes, and getting across it is pretty scarry - thank goodness for GPS.
