Just wanted to report that I rode the river from Newburgh to Saugerties this past weekend in two different boats (yes, its great to be me sometimes!) and couldn't believe the garbage that was floating out there - some trees are big enough to sink Dan's boat if he hits 'em just right...
Especially of concern was coming back south, into the wind and sun, on Sunday, because I really couldn't see very far ahead on the choppy water. Going northbound was easier with the wind, current and sunshine at my back.
On Saturday I was on the new boat, which has a flybridge, and that made it a lot easier to see what was out there...
Overall though, I was rather nervous piloting in that slop, and wouldn't have done it had I realized how lousy the waterway still was...
Just my 2 cents...
