Croton ban on boating!!!!!!!

"Boat Launching
Croton Point Park Croton-on-Hudson 914-862-5290
Provides access to the Hudson River and can accommodate sailboards, canoes and car-top carried boats only. Open April through October, from 8 a.m. to dusk, 7 days a week."

I guess the boat launch is now closed since it would violate the 750' rule as read to me over the phone.

I have no answer John. I just remember reading here a while back that Westchester was trying to prevent boaters from using the Croton beach. Maybe it's like rob said, it's the money.

Rommer, who did you call? I bet if you mentioned the contradition, you would be told don't worry about it, the rule won't be enforced!

The guys over at the other Hudson River board had it right. Go read the passage about not being able to achor yet, there was the Ecuadarian festival going on with no doubt hundreds of illegals. They have rights but boaters don't!!

I recall hearing a while back that the Superintendent of the Park didn't like seeing all the boats off the beach and wanted to get them all moved away.

John, I can't come up with anything regarding that ordinance.

Anyone have any hooks with Boating on the Hudson?? Maybe get them involved...

How about a call to BoatUS? They are supposed to go to bat for boaters rights...

I recall that 30 + years ago the Park police would tell us that we could not beach the boat or walk on the shore. Back then however people were leaving garbage on the beach, and building campfires. I have not seen that in many years. Can I suggest we start sending a bunch of letters (snail mail) to our officials in both Rockland and Westchester. If you can provide the info on who to send this to in Westchester, I will mail them my thoughts as a non law braking boater.

I was kinda hoping that they would 've come out Saturday to try and enforce the new rule but we had to bail and get the hell out of there before my brain got too shaken!!!

I bet the park won't enforce it, but it will be interesting to see in any of the local PD boats, of the Westchester County boat will try and enforce the sign.

Time will tell.

Jonathan

I agree Jonathan, the police won't enforce the rule for the most part. But, what I don't like is their ability to arbitrarily enforce the rule or leverage the rule to break chops regarding something else. Who want's to be hassled when the steaks are just about done and have to deal with the aggrevation. I have to imagine, arguing with a cop will simply ruin your day! There's no upside in that!

Do PBA cards work out on the water?

Just wondering....

Just tell the cops your engine won't start and you are waiting for someone to show up with a part for it!

The real problem is that they think they can just arbitrarily create an artificial distance beyond which they don't want you to anchor. Their is a legal process for them to follow if they want to do it, they have not followed that process.

What do you do if you have had a drink or 2? Sorry officer, I refuse to move because doing so would be unsafe.

We were anchored at Croton Sunday afternoon - no enforcement that I could see. Lots of boats anchored within 750 feet of shore. There were a couple of Sheriff's boat around talking to jet skiiers who were waking everyone. From what I could see, no one was asked to move.

Rommer, do not say that if you are sitting at the helm. If you do I guess they could give you a BWI.... However I am sure they have some ticket for BWAD - Boating While Anchored Drunk....

Having a sedan bridge makes that issue moot Bill. We never party up in the bridge and we always greet people boarding our boat from the cockpit.

I thought we talked about this over the weekend.
We need to sleep out in Croton this weekend.. (weather permiting) and at night on one of the dog walking runs we need to simply remove the 7's from all of the signs..
Problem solved; the park gets there sign and we can anchor out till 50' from shore

Hello all. New to the forum. I'm in halfmoon marina and I saw these signs over the weekend. I'm hoping they are just using these signs to cover themselves incase anyone decides to try and sue the park or the city. Although the weekend after the drowning, they came by a few times and pushed everyone 750 off the shore.

They used to have signs on the beach back around 88 for awhile. If I remember right they had a distance from shore and no beaching. They would come out and chase us off the beach but I dont ever remember hearing anyone getting a citation for it. It looks like they may just be covering there back sides again. I guess the next few weekends will tell the story.
