Croton Beach one of top 5 in Northeast

Jonathan, the problem with the poll is that, unlike in the past when anyone could respond, they now send out questionnaires to select individuals.

Croton may be the best beach in Haverstraw Bay, but there are hundreds of nicer ones in the Northeast.

I agree with you completely about Half Moon Bay, again there must be a couple of hundred better marinas in the Northeast.

It really has diminished my faith in the objectivity of that magazine.

Mike, readers (or anyone else) had the opportunity to respond online if they chose to do so. I believe there was also an insert in one of this year's earlier magazines if you chose to complete it and mail it in. However, I, for one, did not receive a special questionnaire in a separate mailing.
Still, I agree it is mind boggling that Half Moon Bay came up first in the list of favorite marinas in the Northeast. Won't even try to figure it out.

Imagine the looks on the writer and photogs faces when they shows up............damn, I have to waste my day in this hole when I could have had a great trip to Nantucket instead!!!

Wish I could be there to see the reactions.

Maybe someone on the publishers staff wants to sell a slip at Half Moon bay and wants to build up the place a bit prior to placing a listing.

Croton on Hudson is simply an awesome place, period, simple as that!! They have all this and...ME!

Seriously though, I would never think of HMB as a great marina. The docks are nice, the water is deep and the pool is available for an extra fee if you purchase a dockominium. Not sure about transients. There is a gazebo with grills if you are so inclined. A walk to town is nice for ice cream, dinner, etc but isn't that short...better bring a bicycle or call one of the many cabs (due to the train station).

Personally, I think Catskill and Roundout are better...as is Channel Club and a few others that I have visited...maybe even the Croton Yacht Club...at least we have beer!

This is all why I am wondering if their positive reviews are based on where they get a free ride?

PS Jonathan, I'll take Molly Pitcher over the Channel Club (when you can get a spot).

You know…come to think of it, I did hit the submit button an awful lot…. I was just having fun when I filled out the questionnaire online. Whoops!!!!

Ok they definitely screwed this year up..

What happened to Favorite Boat Movie?
That would be Captain Ron

Favorite Boating Activity:
#1 Cruising?!?!? Are they kidding. I thought it was Drinking.

Favorite Boating Song
#5 The Wreck of the Edmunds Fitzgerald?!?!?! Ok I am not even going there with that one.

Favorite Restaurant:
# 4 Dead Eye Dicks?!?!? They call that food.
I would say Harvest in Montauk

Are you kidding me top 5 beach in the northeast ? # 1 in leaching garbage dumps maybe... oh yea that is what it used to be untill they covered it with dirt and spread a few tons of sand and decided to call it a park and a beach a few years back.

Come on now... most of you have been around long enough to remember the days when the wind was just rihgt and the stink would drive you to pull anchor and get, well maybe not the gang who think the river is clean enough to fill there water tanks with :)

Any way back to reality , Good news I may not be boatless after this saturday, on my way to MI in the am to look at a 05 47ft Fountain with triple 575s , wish me luck I after the last few I looked at

Curious about Half Moon Bay being selecting as a top 5 marina. Nothing against it but what if any amenities do they offer? Seems rather bare bones.

a side from being able to come and go regardless
of the tide, being a nice quite place ( no gas dock or repair places or bar ), a short walk to outstanding food, being protected from wakes by a nice seawall, your right.

My marina has a seawall, is a short walk to outstanding food, has an excellent service crew, we can come and go pretty much whenever we want, we have a ship's store, ice is always available, we have a free pumpout, we have a beach, a picnic area and a great bunch of fellow boaters - so WE should be ahead of HMB.

C'mon, really, unless you have never traveled outside of the Croton area, you gotta be kidding me that HMB is one of the top 5 in the Northeast. I could name 50 off the top of my head that offer more than HMB - and that's only up and down the Hudson and out to Martha's Vineyard.

As far as restaurants, several on the Hudson have Dead Eye Dicks beat by a mile: Civiles, Stripped Bass, Haverstraw marina, Newburgh's restaurants...

jonf, if you think the condition of the river is so horrible, why don't you boat somewhere else?

Woo hoo! Triples eh? I guess the stimulus money bled into construction?

Triple 575's. Where do you want a new channel at Stony Point??

I wonder how many pounds of drugs that boat hauled north before it was taken out of commission??????

OK, back on topic:

The #3 Favorite Restaurant was the Ocean House in Croton. Who here has even heard of this place? You can't get to it by boat. From what I've read, the food is decent, but they don't take reservations and the place is small.

The #4 Favorite Anchorage was Croton. While it is the best one in our area, I highly doubt that there are only 3 better ones in the Northeast

The #3 Favorite Beach was Croton. Hmmm, they don't let you anchor within 750' of shore, they don't let you come ashore from your boat, the sand is filled with rocks, sticks and debris, and the swimming area has a depth of about 5' at High tide. The only food is the ice cream truck and the bathrooms get pretty filthy.

We already talked about the "#1 Marina".

All I have to say is congrats to you guys at HMB for stuffing the ballot box - for whatever your reasons. It would have been nice to get a real unbiased vote, but that did not happen.

folks folks
who cares, get in your boats go out for a cruise.
enjoy the great river.

then come over to the #1 marina in the ne.....lol,lol
