My wife is looking at returning from NYC Tuesday night on Metro North. If she doesn't make the last express train, it means a change at Croton-Harmon at around 2:00 am. Can anyone familiar with the station tell me how safe it is at that time of night? Is the station open, or just the platform? Will the second train already be there, or will she have to wait? The schedule shows only 3 minutes between arrival and departure. I'm a bit concerned, so I'd appreciate any info you guys could supply.

Is any place safe anymore? It has been a few years since we took that train but if memory serves she will exit one train and get on the other, the wait is for those making the transfer. Do you have the option of meeting her there? You can make the trip from Croton to Fishkill in about 40 minutes at that time of day/night.

Doesent sound like you will be getting any sleep so why not go get her?

I've come into C-H at many different times day and night and never felt unsafe. But then again, who the hell knows anymore???

It's safe, very safe. Most likely the other train will be waiting right across the platform. They schedule the arrival/departure a couple of minutes apart, most likely in case the arrival is a bit late. There are two sets of stairs at the station, the northern set has a train station the southern is just a cross over. If anything, she should go to the northern set of stairs to wait for the next train. There is no "station master" so I doubt it will be manned. There will be taxis at the taxi stand but they will leave after the last train arrives.

If your wife is concerned, have her put this number in her cell: 914-271-5177. It's the local Croton Police and they are very bored at 2am. They have two cars out and about and the village is only 4sq miles so response time is good. Technically the MTA police patrol the station but village police assist. Use this number as opposed to dialing 911 from your cell which goes to a central station.

Good Luck and don't worry. Can she drive down to Croton Harmon? It's $6 a day to park there.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. Once I realized she wouldn't be just waiting around I figured it was OK, but your reassurances put my mind at ease. Walshie, I'll make sure to give her the specific info you provided.
