Davis and Watch Hill

I went over to Davis Park last night and both are closed for the remainder of the week. Davis experienced damage to the east docks, but I was not allowed to drive around. They are hoping for repairs to be completed for the weekend.

I am sure the beaches and watch hill got hammered.
Though that dune line at watch hill is pretty high and the marina is protected from the south.

I know some boats rode out storm in Hemlock cove.
I wonder how they did.
I gotta imagine if you anchor into beach there you will get some protection from the road.
Our issue is our marina is wide open at the south, so the waves were hammering our rock jetty.!

Newsday.com has a picture of Davis Park and the entire boardwalk on one of the docks is gone.

Just got an email from FOWH and they will be open tomorrow. They have electric and water but no phone so no phone reservations.

Update from FOWH -

Watch Hill did very well despite Hurricane Irene and we're happy to tell you it will re-open tomorrow morning, Wednesday, August 31 to welcome boaters, campers and all visitors. The power is on and electric service will be available to all who need it. Currently, there is no telephone service. The marina will not be able to take slip reservations. Slips will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Very happy all is well at Watch Hill. See you there.

The Brookhaven Bay Constable told me this afternoon that Davis Park will be open with limited slips by the weekend.
A friend, in my Blue Point marina went to Watch Hill today with her 23' i/o. She claims the buoys are off and she hit bottom as she followed the markers. At low tide she showed 1 1/2 feet, dead center of the entrance buoys. Hopefully, NPS fixes the buoys by the weekend.
The ferry is running tomorrow and should be able to report depth readings to NPS.

Pictures from Davis I received today:

Wow! Thats a mess.
I wonder how Westhampton is.
That marina used to flood alot!

Dave ,
I was working out east today did a drive buy of Westhampton Marine.Looks like they had little to no damage that I could see.A lot of boats still in water Including Franks.I didn't See Frank ,saw to guys cleaning his boat.

When you see those pics, makes you wonder if screwing those board down is a better idea.
Nails don't seem good as they begin to rust and loose their holding ability.
A screw probably would hold alot better!

Does anyone know if they corrected the buoys on the way into Watch Hill. Thinking of going there earlier on Saturday and do not want to have a problem
