Day Trip around Manhattan/Hudson river

Hi Folks,

Next month I have several trips planned to go around Manhattan with the vessel. (sales meeting, bachelor party and one other event)

I have gone around Manhattan before and after going up the East and Harlem Rivers I would typically head South on the Hudson and transient dock at chelsea piers for lunch in NYC somewhere.

What about the restaurant at liberty landing?
How is the food there?

What about going North on the Hudson?

Is there anything close on either side of the Hudson?

Is there public docking by Yonkers?

x2o xavairs would be a great spot for lunch especially for the sales meeting when the boss covers everything.

I cant go too far North because these will be all day trips and home port is in Freeport on Long Island.

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, Yonkers has no docking. I think you need to get up to Piermont before you'll find a place you can get to by boat.
 
You could get a transient slip at the boat basin around 76th street and walk a few blocks to uptown eateries. Nothing north of the Harlem River until you get up near the TZ as Hogan said.
 
There is a Ruth's Chris right at Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken. Marina overlooks the whole city, right across from Chelsea Piers.
 
If you go to Liberty Landing, you can stop in and say hello to Jonathan!
 
If you want to be in the heart of NYC, 79th Street isn't a bad idea, but bring plenty of fenders due to the ferries. Decent food within a short walk. Restaurant at the marina is good for burgers and beer.
 
What size boat? Piermont is out, we went in there with a 21'er, raised drive and still churned mud.

Yonkers has the ferry barge if captain would drop off, anchor and pick-up....maybe a few phone calls.
79th street is a good bet, the bar/restaurant is pretty interesting, open air, under highway but very casual. Not sure what else is near there though.
There's PJ Clarkes at WFC/North Cove boat basin had a dock and dine for four hours. There are many restaurants from that location.
Liberty Landing / Ruth Chris in Jersey are also options.
 
I would give the nod to Liberty Landing as well. Easy (and free) docking if you eat in either one of the restaurants. They wouldn't let me into the 79th street boat basin at low tide with a 30 footer so that may be an iffy proposition.

My boat is a 43' Trojan Express w/ over a 16' beam, so Piermont and the 79th street boat basin are definitely out.

The liberty landing restaurants look really nice and would be a change from Chelsea piers.

Anyone prefer one over the other at Liberty Landing?

It looks like maritimeparc has a better seafood menu, so I am leaning towards going there for the sales meeting.

Bachelor party probably best to do chelsea...

79th Boat Basin can definitely handle you. We went in there last year in a 48' Sedan Bridge. They have lots of room.
 
Why not consider the North Cove Marina at WFC? Once docked, there are dozens of restaurants within walking distance.

I know one bachelor party where they bachelor wound up in the water at night on the Hudson. The tide swept him away. They were all sobered up quickly. At least they were on a chartered boat with a captain. So put yourself in those shoes.
As far as LL goes I will +1 that, and dis Lincoln Harbor. I think the setting of the restaurant there is much better with a view of Manhattan and the food was always good when we were up that way. Yeah Ruth's has great steaks.
Either place is bound to be mobbed depending on the time of day and day of week.

There was an opening at CC. Not too many opportunities to get in there so we took it.

Not really. Takes an hour to get to Sandy Hook from either direction, much less fuel idling up the Shrewsbury than running on plane down to the hook.

Channel Club is a getaway marina, I need a getaway. I've been all over the east coast and bahamas boating and want a nice place to relax near the beach. Liberty has no pool so you have to take the boat to get to one. And then pay for the slip.

Might go to Connecticut in a few years.
 
That hour ride each way is going to get old real fast! Especially once the biting flies emerge.

CT would be nice, except for the traffic on the TZ Bridge, 287 & I95! I've thought about it, and just am not ready to deal with it.
