Hello

Asked a few questions about this topic a couple of months ago.

Went to DC today and looked at Gangplank, Capitol, and Washington marinas.

Forgot to look at James Creek Marina

Capitol and Gangplank didn't have room, didnt seem to enthusiastic about transients (gang especially), but Washington may have room and thir docks looked outstanding compared to G and C. Parking and getting there however, look to be a challenge. Overall, I was very glad Cap and Gang made it very difficult for transients to get a slip.

Also went to Alexandria and checked that out--will be great for our use.

My plan is to have numerous guests and customers come to the boat around 530, socialize etc, and then do an evening cruise to Alexandria. Spend some time there and return to start point.

Wash Marina looked great but worried about parking (hope most take taxis).

James Creek Marina on the other hand looked very nice (web site)and might be better for parking etc.

Anyone stay at James creek, good for parking, safe neighborhood, etc?

I think most of my guests will be coming from hotels etc near the convention center and know most will take taxis.

I looked at the map and had a hard time guessing how to get to WAshington marina. James Creek looked much more straight forward.

Thanks again for any info.

John

James Creek will not let you stay aboard for more than three nights. Otherwise, you are classified as a live-a-board, and they are not permitted there.

It is also isolated with nowhere to walk to, unless you are DOD and can enjoy the delights of Fort McNair.

Another place to check out is National Harbor at the HWY95 bridge crossing into Virgina. They have LOTS of new, 60 foot slips.

Called James, looks like a good backup.
Will let me stay as long as i want
have to go the the outside of their long dock
He says the bad area is 1/2 street to first street
their marina road comes down second street

Hoping Wash Marina works, if not, James will be it.

Thanks Chris.

Unkle Buck,

I have stayed at James Creek several times for months at a time a few years back. It is a nice marina. However, you need to drive there and decide for yourself...by vehicle, you will be driving through the Hood. Especially when leaving the marina to get back into the city's main streets, as it's mainly one-way streets leaving the marina, which takes you right down the narrow, dark streets at night with many folks sometimes hanging out in the street as you try to pass.

If you can get over that issue, with friends or family driving there, you'll be fine. Good Luck.

My .02 cents.

thanks...perfect recommendation ...got 20-30 guests a night for 3 nights and i hope it is no hood for me

Taxis will NOT come down to that area at night for pick ups. There is no bus service. You are stranded unless you drive or use a private limo service.

Many do not recommend driving to/from there at night.

So, I hope you get you first choice! Good luck.

Well, made it up from Charleston.

Left Sunday, seas were good and ran all the way to Beaufort NC. Got diesel at $3.89 a gallon and ate at the Beaufort Grocery Store…..excellent.

Dockmaster gave me a NOAA number 843-xxx-xxxx, option 7 gets you a live operator and gives you a detailed forecast I’ll get that number , misplaced it.

Went around Cape Hatteras second day and it was all but sweet.

Stopped at Bluewater Yachts Marina in Hampton VA and got fuel at $3.75 food at the marina was average.

Tuesday all the way to the Potomac and got to Washington Marina all OK.

Minor crap everywhere the last half of the Potomac.

Great trip and thanks again for the info

"Anyone stay at James creek, good for parking, safe neighborhood, etc?"

Father-in-law keeps his boat there. Nice marina, gated with codes which 'feels safe'. Parking is good. Not the nicest part of DC to travel thru to get there. He has never had any issue and typically spends weekends on the boat. 2003 42 Seat AC "Capital Hill II"

Same Uncle Buck with the for sale 45DA?

We kept our boat there 2 months this summer...about as good as it gets in this area. We stopped there on our way to Deltaville last weekend.
