I am looking to install a deck pipe for storing my anchor rode in the locker below. I would like a quality stainless unit. Since this is the first time for installing such an item, what should I be aware of? Any special cautions or materials that I should use. Any help on item selection would be appreciated. I would really like a unit that would actually seal once the rode is completely stowed. I would also like to install an anchor mount on the deck as well and have the same mounting concerns. I am looking for a secure mount that will allow the first mate to easily remove it for use. Also be able to latch in place while underway. I have a danforth style anchor. Any suggestions? Thanks!
 
Here's what you need for a deck cap: PER0757DPOCHR. It's on page 631 in Boatfix.
It has a cap that's not watertight, but I've never had a single drop come in. When installing, use a good caulk like 3M 4200 to properly bed it.
 
On mine, I have a nice cast stainless steel unit with a spring loaded hinged lid which overhangs the base quite a bit. The only open part to it is where the line comes out. Not sure who made it, but it was standard fare on Carvers before they went to standard windlass
 
Thanks a lot. I will look into those units. What about a way to store the anchor on the front deck? Are there any kits to mount one there that you would recommend? I would like something with a positive lock so the anchor can't just pop off the mount on its own. Thanks. BTW, Good looking unit there KIDA
 
Karl, I've used this type for over 30 years and never had an anchor pop out yet. Obviously this won't work with every type anchor out there.

I'll look for one of those and try my anchor on it. This HAS to be MUCH easier than hauling the anchor rode out through the front cabin across the sleeping matress from the anchor locker! It isn't bad coming out but going in wet is for the birds! I usually try to leave it out so it will dry out but hate having it lay around while I am under way. It makes it a real safety issue. Thanks.
 
my 2 cents worth, if at all possible use S.S.bolts & nylon lock nut combination instead of just screws,seems the hole diameter doesn't allow for "beefy" screws, and if your offshore alot it makes sense to have it as secure as possible,plus you can use a rubber washer topside to weatherproof the hole without having to deal with 4200 or 5200. Good Luck.
 
Thanks. I was actually looking at a combination of all 3 items, S.S. bolts with lock nuts, rubber washers, and 5200. The mounting for the anchor will be over the front cabin so the bolts must be VERY closely checked for length lest the first mate hit her head on one. That would not be good for either of our boating experiences! Possibly the nylon nuts with a S.S. acorn nut after that.
