Be sure to download and read "Envisioning Futures for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta" issued by the Public Policy Institute of California on Feb. 7. Everyone who has a stake in the California Delta should should understand the issues discussed in this report. It's not a bad read, although I started too late and I'm getting too bleary-eyed to finish it tonight. Don't let the news media tell you what to believe. It's 324 pages but they are PDF report pages, not book pages.

It a free PDF download, 3.7 meg file. Easy for a DSL connection but will take you longer on dail-up. Interesting Delta history is provided, and a lot more.

I may get mad later, after I finish it.

I have not finished reading "Envisioning Futures" yet.

The hard drive here is showing serious signs of failing anytime soon (this has been going on for several weeks) so it looks like I'll have to wait a few days before finishing it. Most of this weekend is dedicated to the nasty task of backing up all of my valuable stuff to a laptop and replacing the drive with a new and much larger unit.

At this point, it seems to me that the PPI report is declaring victory for DWR. DWR pumping has ruined the Delta pelagic ecosystems beyond repair and the best thing to do is some form of Delta "amputation." Suck out more water with a peripheral canal intaking further to the north, amputate the Delta below Hood: flooding some islands for water storage and making a saltwater bay in the middle of the Central Delta. It will be open season for any developer to come in and build cute little island housing projects and make tons of money so long as they want to rebuild the levee to flood control specs (probably with federal assistance.) Pay off the Delta farmers who will go out of business with a salt-water Delta and give them the boot.

PPIC is a private think tank that contracted some university research. Historically, PPIC has sought social solutions to primarily economic challenges. They seek solutions to problems that allow the most parties to make the most profit from difficult and devisive situations. They do not specialize in natural sciences research and this is their weakness. None of their proposed Delta "solutions" is backed with real light of actual science.

PPI has powerful ties. If you'll notice, a Contributing Editor for the Sacramento Bee is on the PPI advisory council. The Sacramento Bee has long time ties to KFBK and KCRA as well as some other media outlets.

Who is PPI? This gives you a good idea. http://www.ppic.org/main/boardadvisory.asp

I hope to finish and better understand details of the report before Wednesday or so.

Thanks for the beginning sumation and add'l background! It is always good to know the agenda behind the info in these sorts of things. I sure hope this does not come to pass. If so, it might be time then to retire my boat or move it up closer to my home.......boo hoo

I see a lot of Southern Cal influence is there as well! That is never good for the Delta.
