A couple weeks ago, some friends and I spotted a creature that we couldn't readily identify. We were right near the southern entrance to Cabin Slough (in the western / southern lane of the parallel sloughs) between Kimball and Sherman Islands, about north of the Antioch Marina. At first sight it was probably 30 or 40 feet away, and in the dusk light it reminded me of like an alligator's eyes poking above the water. It swam towards the tules as we got closer. We believe it was a mammal, from its round shape and possible fur. It appeared to be about the size of a racoon, or maybe a little smaller. It was brown or black, but that could just be because it was all wet. One person suggested racoon, but I doubt they're that aquatic. From my description I've since heard theories of muskrat, beaver, otter and possum. Anybody have an idea on what that sucker was?
