I'm hoping to get down to Destin in the next few weeks and I would like some info on gps coordinates for some likely fishing spots. We would like to stay within 10 miles of shore or even in the bay. I have downloaded the list of fishing spots from halfhitch.com. Any favorites from this group or some not listed? I'm not looking for your "secret spots", just some promising locations and what we might expect to catch.

I do not have any GPS coordinates to contribute because I was using Loran when I sold my last boat 5 years ago. Halfhitch usually provides some good information. They have a large tackle/bait shop on hwy 98 in Destin.

What type fishing do you want to do? Trolling or bottom. What size boat? I primarily liked to troll for Kings. Do you have charts of this area. I know nothing about the bay/sound. A lot of people do good on specks in the sound.

I have a 27 ft Searay. We were planning on doing some bottom fishing around structure, but we would be open to some trolling with some good info since I'm inexperienced in saltwater trolling techniques. I have downloaded charts from maptech.com to get familiar with the area and plan on getting updated charts upon arrival. Downloaded 12 pages of coordinates from halfhitch.com. I'm just trying to narrow the list down and get some more current info.

I always preferred trolling. The people at HalfHitch Tackel can set up with the preferred rigs as soon as you hit town. Trolling here is usually fairly easy if you are not looking for the "smocker." I have had good luck working the area between the pier and the Destin Pass about 1 1 1/2 mile offshore. Or just look around and anyplace you see sever boats in a Lufbery you will find Kings.

If you make HalfHitch your headquarters as soon as you get into town you probably cannot go wrong.

Good luck.

Hey there. I'm also thinking about Destin for a fishing trip from Aug 1-4.

I've been searching the different fishing forums and halfhitch fishing reports. Looks like Destin is a pretty good fishing spot with a diverse list of available species.

Give me this weekend to dig up the links to the other forums and I'll post them on here.

When are you going down? Maybe we could hook up and learn together.

I was talking to one of our local Fish and Wildlife officers two days ago. He says the Kings are really hitting out along the edge.

Hello scuppari. We are also planning our trip Aug. 1-6. May not get away until the 2nd. I was down there last year with the wife and was really impressed with the Red Snapper and Amberjacks being caught. I didn't see many Kings, probably not targeted by the charter boats.

gcolton, sounds good about trolling between the pier and Destin Pass, but how far out is it to the edge?

Look forward to info from some other forums.
