NOTE: I have edited this post to add a link to an article which specifically discusses repowering this boat with 255hp Yanmar diesels.
http://www.boattest.com/Resources/view_news.aspx?NewsID=3393
Specs on boat as follows:
L= 35'7" (LOA 40'7" with platform and pulpit)
Beam= 12'6" (gunwales)
draft= 38" (at keel)
weight= 19,500lb as per spec (23,000+ with Genny, 12 group 31's in the house bank and other addons)
fuel capacity=325gallons (2x125gall+1x75gall)
The 75 gallon tank is actually for the Genny, but functions as a reserve tank.
My engines are running fine, but I plan to start taking relatively long trips in the next year or two.
Possibly the loop, certainly a run to florida/Bahamas. Our current location is Lake Ontario in NYS.
We really like the layout of this boat, and would like to keep it rather than going the trawler route.
Our current fuel consumption is atrocious.
2000 rpms gets us 7-8mph
3000 rpms planes well at 15mph.
3300 rpms gets us 18 mph.
This translates into 200+gallons to travel 150miles at 15knots, our usual weekend jaunt.
Now that we are looking at a 1000+mile run, fuel efficency is starting to become more of a concern.
Has anyone done a repower on one of these boats?
If anyone else has done it, I would love to benefit from their experience, should they wish to share it.
If no one has done this exact repower, but has experience with something similar, any in put is welcome.
I have little knowledge of diesel engines, and am not sure which brand, size, output would be optimal or even appropriate.
Thanks for the help.
