We have owned our 97 Carver 355ACMY for seven years and I am tired of taking the dingy off and putting it back on the front of the boat. On our previous boat we had these excellent, "C" shaped, white, plastic davits that would slip over the tube and a rope that you would pull and the dingy would pivot upward. That company is no longer in business, and I have been unable to find anything like them. What do all you 355's use for dingy davits? I am trying to stay away from davits that become a tripping hazard when the dingy is not on the boat. Our dingy is 10', and NOT a hard bottom. It weighs approximately 65 lbs. Also where do you guys store your motors? I have been carrying my 8hp merc up and down the stairs. My wife wants me to mount a mount on the transom, any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I haul & support my entire dink and the 65 lb motor by a st croix mini crane attached to a spider web with labled brass snap rings.

The mini crane is also used to deploy/retrieve the outboard in and out of the lazarette.

PM me for a photo.

Tim,

Take a look at the Weaver Snap Davits. They have a quick removal kit so you can remove the davit brackets off the swim platform when you want. Thay also have a very cool transom mount leaver that allows you to leave the outboard on the dinghy - it pivots when you raise the dinghy.

Thanks RWS. I do not have an anchor under my login name so I cannot PM you for photos, although I would like to see them. At least I have a starting point.

You can make your own davits for just a few hundred dollars:

I made mine with PVC lumber from Lowes, Weaver quick-release swim platform attachments, grocery cart wheels and some flat stainless steel plate. These have held my 12' dingy and 8HP o.b., fuel tank and other junk all season with nary a problem. Very cheap and secure with ratchet straps.

Orange ratchet straps criss-cross under the dinghy, attach to the swim platform cleats and then attach to the bridge hand rail:

At 30 knots with about 400 lbs with the dinghy, motor, fuel and stuff:

My original post is just shy of being one year old and I still haven't done anything with the davits. I have been looking around for a system that I do not have to take the motor off the dingy. Are there any new ideas out there?

Folieudeux, do you have the plans for your system? I was looking on the net, and they want close to $1K for a similar system. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Folieudeux do you have plans or drawings for these mounts?

Yes, I have the drawings of the metal pieces that fit into the Weaver davit quick release bracket that are mounted on my swim platform. If you wish to email me I will share those drawings, send me an email message : nestes (at) haskinsinc (dot) com. The plastic arms that provide the cradle for the dinghy would be cut to whatever shape best fits your dinghy. The system has worked great since I built it and it has held up very well.
