Hi All

I was thinking of hiring a diver to clean my running gear, any recommendations.

Thanks
Ron

Ron, a friend, named Steve does that work with full gear. 631 882-4475. Actually doing a couple boats tonight.

Thanks Gerry

Steve is coming over today to do my boat and my neighbor's boat

Hi Gerry and
All

Just want to say Steve came and did a great job cleaning my running gear. Saved me money verse a short hall. First time I ever had to get this done. Water in my canal is 79 deg., good for barnacal growth, I guess.

I'm in the Patchogue river this year for the first time. Yesterday was the first chance I had to look at the bottom of the boat. Bottom is in excellent condition, but the wheels, shafts and rudders were caked with a half inch of barnacles. Water temp yesterday in Patchogue Bay was 85 degrees, visibility was one foot. Maybe if I ran the boat more I would have less growth, but I would also have less money.

How much does steve charge to clean the running gear? A friend in my marina may need a short haul or a diver.

Jeff,
Thanks for the divers mask, I need to get it back to you, I couldn't see under the boat, but, Rob,"Boat Crazy" dove for me today. Rob told me there were a few barnacles but not that many, but he did say about 20% of the south bay strainer was clogged with green growth, he tried his best to get it off (no wire brush). I may need him back (which he kindly offered) when I have a wire brush available.

Walter, sorry it didn't help you see. I am at marina almost every weekend. May be at kismet this weekend. I am sure we can connect at some point of this summer. I may dive my boat this weekend to check my running gear, but I use a dive mask for this, so won't need the goggles I lent you.

We may as well live in Florida with all this growth in our area.

I changed out both props and zincs on Saturday. the barnacles were crusted on anything that was metal. Very little on the keel, otherwise it was very clean. I found an excellent diving tool for cleaning shafts, struts, rudder etc. and especially the intake strainers.

Home Depot special, not stainless, but great for the job.

Walter,

On my way in to ss3, after anchoring for a few hours by Atlantique,I turned into the anchorage and went by your boat to see if you were there. Figured you could toss the mask to me, but obviously you were not there. Maybe next time. I may be at marina tomorrow. If you are there, let me know. Or maybe this upcoming weekend.

Jeff

Jeff,
If you ever want to come dock for a while, slip D61 next to me is empty and will be all summer.
I think it's 14' wide.

I think you said A9 was your slip in SS3, could I just go buy and put it on your boat?

Walter,

I'm in A1, but you need a pass for the gate to get in.
