The output of the 40e is only rated at 1.5 GPH. I think you should stick with what you built. Bill's old 80e (mine nowis rated at 4gph, and while it works perfectly for us, I wouldn't want any less. I run the genny in the evenings for hot water and battery charging and the 4gph then mixed with running some underway works great. But 1.5 would not cut it.
Yes, I was converned about that so we went out with another friend who has one in his boat, a 32' SeaRay. He and his wife have had the 40e for a couple of years and swear buy it and say it gives them all the water they need. so, I wanted to see for myself.
With the Cruising kit and boost pump the 40e will actually put out about 3.5 gph.(measured by filling milk jugs) Then we unhooked the boost pump and, yes, it slowed Waaaay down.
Plus the 40e only draws about 4 amps.
With the boost pump hooked up and running it underway it put out a bit over 3.5 gph. For me that'll do quite adequately.
