Dockside pump out collapsing the tank

Just a tad more of an explanation:

KO - Kills Odors - is strictly a holding tank additive.

However, it has been discovered (after the fact) that it can be used for other onboard applications as well, such as on pet "accidents" by spraying full-strength on the spot after having cleaned it up. Just spray it on and leave it there - let it dry. KO can also be used on musty pillows and cushions, but it must be sprayed on full strength enough to saturate all the way to the center of the padding. Then set it out in the sun and let it dry.

CP - Cleans Potties - was intended to be a toilet bowl cleaner only.

But it can also be used to clean drains and sumps. If given enough time, it will dissolve soap scum and hair that tend to clog drains and build up in shower sumps. Once a month or so, put a healthy squirt (1-2 oz.) into the sink or shower drain the last thing at night, before retiring, so it will have time to work overnight.

They are compatible with each another, but each has its own particular application (they can't be interchanged). Other toilet cleaners, deodorants, etc., may not be compatible with KO - they may kill the live agent in the KO, rendering it useless. So be careful what you use together with what - you may not get the result you'd hoped for!

And then there's Odorloss. That's what I use. I don't remember why but I researched that and KO and decided that for me, Odorloss was a better choice.

I generally use Oderless because it is available locally, however I use CP once a month. I seem to have a clean smelling tank when I open the inspection plate and it doesn't seem to effect the operation of the PuraSan. The few times I haven't used Oderless before leaving the boat and I have opened the inspection plate on the holding tank I have to open every window in the boat!

Wow, who woulda thunk. Thanks Vic, I'm going to put some CP in the shower sump on a regular basis now.

Ron, Odorlos generates its own oxygen out of the nitrates in the sewage inside the tank. KO requires an external source of oxygen via the vent lines. So Odorlos will sometimes work in the few case where KO won't, particularly when your vent lines aren't adequate to get a good supply of outside air into the tank.

Keep in mind that Odorlos (and KO) requires that #2 be in the tank, not just #1. Those bugs need to be fed in order to live, and to do their job. Urine-only is sterile, and offers no nutrients, so the bacteria can't survive for long if there is no #2 in the tank.

So for those of you who say I only pee in the toilet, and never flush solids of any kind through it, and I use your product, but my tank still stinks - yep, you're right, it does! The bacteria in the additives have starved to death, and aren't working.

So is there something you can recommend for "pee only" tanks (besides take a dump).

Nothing that I'm aware of.

The only thing that might work would be one of the formaldehyde-based products or one of the heavily perfumed products, neither of which I recommend.

I've heard somewhere, that granulated sugar will help to get rid of urine odors, but I have no idea how much to use or how often to use it, or in what context it would be used. Maybe someone else can shed some light on it.

Yep, I remember, that's the reason.

A "pee only tank"?

I go on trips for a week at a time. I don't know how I would get by with a "pee only tank".

Ron, some people are "anal-retentive" and only pee, nothing else....[:-bigeyes][:-bigeyes]

But seriously, you'd be amazed at how many people refuse to put anything other than liquids into their marine toilet, for fear something will go wrong with it and they'll have to take it apart and fix it [:-yuck] - or that if it gets into their holding tank, it'll stink.

Sometimes, when I'm talking to people on the phone and I feel a little onery, when they tell me their toilet system stinks, I'll say to them, "Well think about what you're putting into it..."

I usually get dead silence on the phone for a few seconds, before I tell them I'm just kidding.

Everyone uses their boat differently. I work 6 days a week so I'm only at the boat Saturday late afternoon and Sundays. I've never overnighted on the hook and have always been at marinas when I go on trips so I always have said "pee only". Smells better at that time on a small boat.

Until recently after reading a thread here, I never realized there were small living creatures in the holding tank that couldn't survive without munching on sh!t. I guess I will have to feed them once in a while from now on.

I'm not amazed, I see it posted all the time. I don't understand it. There's not much point in having a marine head if you're not going to use it or only going to pee in it.

The macho guys with the fishing boats want to brag that "whoever uses it, cleans it."

I have a (female) friend who up untill recently owned a boat and she believes that you should not put toilet paper in the head. She kept a trash can for toilet paper!
