I would like to find a simpler way to winterize my genny and AC. I found a perko strainer that had a built in bypass flushing valve...but it was like $400 or something. I had a friend say he took a spare cap and drilled and tapped a fitting, but that is beyond my ability.

Does anyone know if such a device exists...meaning a replacement temporary cap for the strainers that has a fitting so I could scew in a garden hose and pour antifreeze easily without making a mess?

Thanks in adavnce

A guy I know made me a cap out of starboard with a fitting.
He drilled out the wholes to match the cap and made a gasket out of some rubber.
When it was tightened down, it worked like a charm.
Since its temporary, no concerns about using starboard.

There also used to be a company called thoro flush that made a replacement cap that did exactly that as well.
Thoroflush went out of business.

Perko makes a motor flusher (Flush-Pro) that you install in line to flush and winterize your engines.

I don't know if I trust the flush-pro which is all plastic to be stuck in my main engine feed line!

Yeah, I agree....I like the starboard idea best...it sounds like there should be a better device out there.

As a follow up, I had a friend tell me I am stressing about nothing. He said just close the thru-hull...take off the "strainer cap" suck out the water with a shop vac, and then fill the strainer with pink stuff...keep it topped off and as long as you keep it topped off the genny and AC will suck in the fluid and all is well. He said the intake is near the top of the strainer, and all that matters is you have that hole covered.

Seems to make sense? What r your thougths?

Thats what I am told as well.
I used my device, which works fine.
