Posting this on behalf of a friend who's having some computer troubles getting signed up for BoaterEd:

" I'm trying to find replacement hardware for my Mariner entry door. The problem is the door thickness and the setback. The thickness started out as 1", but has been sanded down closer to 15/16". The setback is 1 5/8 (centered on the 3 Вј" piece of teak. The gap between the doors is also so large (1/4") that I plan to put a mullion in.

I can find thin mortised sliding door hardware, but the setback is really short. Any kind of conventionally mortised hardware requires a thicker door. There's the surface mounted Perko hardware, but since the door opens out, the bevel strikes the wood before it gets to the box strike.

What do people do?"

Any suggestions? I thought Perko still made the hardware that was used on those old doors. Perhaps someone else has dealt with this???

If its an aluminum slider try googling "Adams Rite 4431" and see if the picture is corrct. I replaced the outside plate on my 3227 last year.

Thanks guys. I ended up going with a conventional (mortised) Perko set, building up the door on both sides with thin pieces of teak to deal with the "door thinness" problem.

Hey Peter I never got to officially welcome you to this forum :)
