The duck bill valve on the vented loop of my head sticks closed about once every 2 weeks or so. I replaced the valve and sure enough 2 weeks later it stuck closed.--It there any remedy? When the valve stick the head bowl fills up too high. I was considering adding a small extension between the loop and the valve to remove it from whatever causes it to stick (it now sits right on top of the valve).

That's one of the inherent problems with that type of vented loop fitting - the check valve inside it tends to plug up. My personal preference is to have one that has an actual vent line that vents outside of the boat. I don't know that there is an actual cure for the problem. Usually when the duckbill plugs up, you get the exact opposite reaction - all the water drains out of the head (unless of course, the hose goes uphill after the vented loop fitting) - in which case, the vented loop fitting is in the wrong place.

I have a vented loop installed with both the duck bill and a 1/4 vent line going to the outside of the boat. Based on your response Vic, sounds like I should remove the little rubber duck bill valve. Is this correct?

In my case the vented loop is on hose from the mercator to the thru-hull (holding tank discharge).

If the vented loop is between the output from the holding tank (macerator pump) and the discharge thru-hull, it shouldn't have any effect whatsoever on the water level in the toilet bowl. But yes, if the fitting is vented outside the boat via an actual vent tube, I'd remove the duckbill valve from it, as it will only be a PITA with it clogging up every so often. The holding tank DOES have its own separate vent line, doesn't it?

Vic....thanks for the response. To answer your question the holding tank has it own separate 1 1/2 inch vent line.

I am not the one with the toilet water level problem. I just asked a question since your answer to Mike F's question made me realize that I have an unecessary duck bill valve in my system and ought to remove it. One less thing to break or malfunction.
Thanks, "Mike Y" (not Mike F)
