I'm looking at a freshwater 1993 Chaparral 270 model (cruiser) in the 18-22k range (that's kindo of my price target). The only other similar style boats in the price range I can find are Rinker and Regal.
The boat would be for Great Lakes boating such as fishing, island hoping, cruising, swimming, etc. Never going more than 10 miles from the dock.
Sooooo, can anyone fill me in on the durability of Chaparral's hull, materials, workmanship, etc.? Any material changes from 10 years ago to today? I've heard there are some brands to beware of after 10+ years (Maxxum, Bayliner, Larson, etc), and I've also heard Chaparral's quality is as good as a Sea Ray for the mass market boats. Would like some more specific color from a freshwater oriented boat expert.
A relative of mine is also looking at a 1990 Chaparral 30', so I'm assuming any answers to the 270 question will probably apply to both.
Thanks !
Ron
