I have found a 1991 or 1992 (not sure which yet) 28 Sedan, the one with the 11'10" beam, for sale right down the dock from me...anyone have one that can give me any info on them? It's a fresh water boat, and originally sold by my dealership, and the guy only wants $35,000...sounds like a good price, judging by our NADA books. I'm really looking for cruising speeds, ride and economy. It has Twin 350cid chevys.

I'm confused. There's a Carver out there that YOU don't know everything about? What, did they only make 2 of them? :)

It sounds like the same model that Art has on Dock 3. Unfortunately, he mentioned that he'll be hauling out this week.

Are you talking about the boat that was called the 300 a few years later and then proceeded to be called the 320 Voyager (At least the hull)?

SLW...I just don't remember much about that model as we only sold a couple, and the seemed to have been trouble free. Caver370, yes..that is the one, only when they called it the 320, they legthened the hull quite a bit to make it a better running boat. Now the 320, we sold lots of those, I'm just leary of the "short" hull on the 28/300

I have a friend who owned one and he was in love with the boat, he only sold it because he bought a 370 voyager. I think that boat is a great bang for the buck and tons of room for a 28-30 footer!

Hi Ram,

I checked, and my friend here at work did note that his Dad's boat in the 28' Carver.

He notes the following:
Dad has a 1987 28' Carver Mariner.... he loves it. twin 305 V drives and 11 ft beam.

He sent me pics of it on a lift.. which I will forward to you....

I saw the pics Joe...that is the predecessor to the one I'm looking at. A nice boat to be sure, but 10 inches narrower

Ram, we saw the boat you are referring to at a boat show in Long Island when it was new. There were two possible layouts for the salon, one had the lower helm and the other had a full head with stall shower - the MOST EXPANSIVE shower and head I've ever seen on a 28 footer! If this is the layout of the boat you're interested in, I'd strongly consider it, because its an excellent pocket cruiser. Of course I'm assuming you are into extended cruising here...

One thing that has always drawn me to the "Mariner" series of Carvers has been their incredibly good living accomodations for a family of 2 adults and up to 2 or 3 kids as mini-liveaboards. My 2896 is literally our second home on the water, and we use it the way you'd use a lakefront cottage, which means a lot of stuff gets stored on that boat that you don't normally see on a boat. Yet our Mariner finds a place to put it all, with a little help from our dockbox...

BTW perhaps you can answer something for me - did Carver actually use the "8" series designation in their internal model names??? I know that boats ending in "0" were the all wood versions (e.g. 2890), if they ended in "5" (as in my old 2895) they were fiberglass hulls, wood bottoms, if they ended in "6" (as in my current 2896) they were all-fiberglass albeit with balsa coring in the hull bottoms, and if they ended in "7" (e.g. 2897) they were the solid-fiberglass versions that started with the 2357 Montego in 1979 and culminated with the 4207/4227 MYs in the late '80s. Did they subsequently go to the "2898" nomenclature??? I've never seen it listed as such in the sales literature...

Pete,
By the time the "8" series came out to market, they had already started using the two digit (28 Sedan, 42 MotorYacht etc...) but use, to this day, the 4 digit model numbers in house. It is something the consumer only sees if/when they may read their owners manual. I say "if" because most of our customers do not read it...LOL. BTW, they are still on the 8 series of boats. The new 42/43 SS is known internally as the 4228 and the 2008 36 SS is the 3328 (as it started out life as the 33SS)

Just look at and buy the Boat RAM... You'll look good up on that bridge... you'll need a sky hook for Silky though.

Yes, my boat is called the 3608..still from when they called it the 36 early on

Interesting trivia, Ram!! And confusing too, witness the 3328 being called a 36. Reminds me of working on old Ford engines - my 351C engine on my old car belonged to the 335 series, and so forth...

Makes sense though, when one considers the structural and materials changes that took place as Carver migrated from "0" to "5" to "6" to "7" to "8"...
