ECM needed but no longer available

So after two weeks at the mechanic it turns out the ECM p/n 862148T3 needs to be replaced. Mercruiser wants 3900.00 and everyone else says it's obsolete. I found on in Florida but guy says "as is" no warranty. I can't spend 1500 bucks for something that has no warranty. Does anyone know where I can buy one?

Did did a Yahoo search and found many suppliers.
 
Couldn't find anything. Try going to a voyager EST ignition if you can't upgrade to a newer merc ECM that mounts to the riser. I bought a couple extra used ECM for $100 ea. If I remember right, all you need is the ECM and mounting bracket and harness.

Did you by any chance look at the specific part listing to see if it said "no longer available"?
 
yes "no longer available" and some say "obsolete". Charlie it's EFI so that idea won't work. Mercruiser has an option which they call a "conversion kit" costing 3999.00 which hurts even to say it. I have some calls out and a few e-mails. I'm going to stick it out for now and hope one turns up.

My conversion kit would be a 4bbl manifold and a Quadrajet...LOL....electric fuel pump and see if the EST ignition will work....
Here's another thought:
You can get remanufactured ECMs for vehicles easily, do any of those companies do marine units?

What year and size engine do you have?
Go back and look at Merc parts diagrams, did the same engine have the option of a carb? If so I'd forget EFI if I could not get an ECM and convert to a 4bbl carb of your choice. You could sell off all the Merc EFI stuff (manifold, pump, injectors) and offset the cost of conversion. Do it quick before the EPA finds out LOL.....
 
Ok I found a company in California and bought it. I should have it tomorrow. Mercruiser wanted 3999.00 and I ended up paying 1571.75 delivered. I will update how it runs after I bay test it. Thanks for all your input. I always thought EFI was better but maybe the old carbs would have been the best setup in this case.

I think originally he had the TBV.

I only saw the sketch of that ECM, but it looked kinda like the old TBIV ECM.

Rob, What boat do you have now?
 
ok boat is running great! We loaded it up with five people and enough supplies to stay out fro a week and the boat ran well. The ECM I bought was a new unit so I did well with buying from OBD Diagnostics 888-469-3274. I spoke with Ken and he said they even will repair them if possible. I sent him my old one and will repair it if possible. Charlie boat is a Searay 270 Sundancer with twin 4.3 Mercruisers using TBI vs. the newer MPI setups. Mercruiser sells a conversion kit that uses the newer ECM but makes the consumer pay for them not supporting older ECMs. I'm glad that's done. I'm ready to go back to outboards the new four stroke Yamaha engines are incredible.

well, i'm glad you got her going. it just made my blood curdle thinking about the cost for this thing. there had to be a better way to go. i know you know what you're doing, though.
