John it would help if we had a link. I picked out a place on Google Earth I thought you might be talking about, and thought to myself, why would anyone want to be on the Hudson down there? I don't know a marina down there that has conditions good for a live aboard (or something not as frequent like weekends) unless you are well into the facility.

They don't have any web presence at all.
When I was down there I was impressed with the double seawall they have. Not much movement at all in the marina while the river was kinda snotty.
As for being on the Hudson down there it would let us go to more places without having to run up and down the river an hour plus in each direction. We like to travel and while we enjoy the river, each trip adds about 50 gallons of fuel. We may not move at all but a change might be good too. Like I said, exploring options.
We are also considering Liberty Landing. Almost went there this season but we keep hearing about traffic horror stories on Sunday night/Monday mornings coming out of that area.

Don't forget the Sand Bar. That place is NOISEY! If you can get a quiet slip it could be worth while.

A while ago, another RO was asking about boating up north from here vs. long island, and I had to say there is no comparison. LI has much better boating available. While there are many more boaters, the destinations and the environment are better if you can find the time to travel when everyone else is busy elsewhere.

Is Edgewater the marina directly south of the George Washington Bridge, on the NJ side?
If so I have a buddy who kept a 28' there for several years,(six to seven years ago), but left because of low water issues. At low tide it looked like marsh land. He sucked mud through his raw water system on more than one occasion and had some pretty major repairs.

As far as I can tell there are several marinas just south of the GWB.
This one was dredged several years ago and they claim at least 4 feet at dead low tide. I spoke to several people with boats there and they seem to confirm that the water there is at least 4 feet. There is a marina north of this one about a mile, Van Dolph or something like that and I hear that one is a swamp. (Compared to where we are now, 4 feet is plenty deep!) Also, there is a new ferry terminal at this marina with weekday only service.
Will have to bring the boat down and do my own soundings one of these weekends.

They dredged Edgewater a year or so ago. The Ferry runs out of there, but only on weekdays. The marina is very clean, or at least it was when I looked at it last year. But the rules and regs were enough to make me run. A bit difficult to get in or out of when the current is running, which is about 80% of the time on the river.

Curious as to why you move your boat out of SPBM to Haverstarw for the winter. I'm in Jersey city but I go to SPBM for the winter. I have for the last 5 years. I save a lot of money compared to staying in Jersery City. Do you get a better deal at Haverstraw?

I winter the boat in the water. I know many people feel differently but my belief is that boats were designed to be supported by water, not boat stands.
When I first started keeping the boat in the water SPBM did not offer that service. They do now but I prefer HM. Haverstraw offers a much more protected area being a "bowl" off the main river, provides the circulators as well as the electricity to operate them. They send someone down the docks each day to keep an eye on things and of course a security gate system.

I kept my boat there five years ago and enjoyed being able to walk to it from my house.
Eventually I got really tired of going up and down the river and moved to Westchester.
If I remember correctly, at that time you had to be a resident a pay the fees directly to the town of Edgewater

Van Dohlin's is the mud basin, and really a very dingy marina. Rommer I don't remember any specifics, but you generally had to sign away all claims for any kind of liability, of any kind, while giving them all kinds of permissions. Very one sided contract and much more stringent than anything I've seen elsewhere. If you call Edgewater they will send you a copy.
