Anyone have a good technician that can come out to the boat (on bethel island) that can calibrate radar, gps, chart plotters? I'm having problems with one of the GPS units losing a signal and wanted to calibrate the Radar as well and then maybe replace one of the units with another color unit.

Thanks

You might check with Marine Emporium by the bridge......won't be cheap though!

Get an easy target, drop anchor, bahama style I think it is called, then take a fix off the bridge, write down the Lat & Long. simultanesously, write down the GPS Lat-Long, cross check them. I have done this a few times and it serves to give me a good cross check.

I have other ideas if you need them. I am going back to bed for now, will look later...Dave

There is a battery in the GPS antenna. When it goes out the unit will drop the signal and be very erratic when starting up. The battery is available at Radio Shack if this turns out to be the problem.

A common cause for a dropped GPS signal is the antenna connection/plug. Check it out very, very closely. Make sure it makes good contact, is snug and clean. I'd bet that's it...
