Engine Just Died

1999 225 fuel injected Merc 2-Stroke outboard. Cruising home for fishing at 4600 RPM and the motor just died. It will crank but does not turn over. Thinking it is a fuel issue - are there any filters that could be clogged. There is a fuel/water separator on the deck and another screw on filter in the engine.

At least I was able to clean the boat and the fish on my 2 hour Tow Boat US ride.

First thing I would check for is spark.

Check the lanyard "key" and its kill switch. That kills ignition only, not the starter circuit.

Just semantics of course , b ut cranking is "turning over" . Yours is apparently not firing.
