Evening. Have a 40 PC Formula with twin DZL. When I try to start the Starboard engine I get a click click as in a dead battery...so I changed the battery same thing happens. The batteries are setup in series. If I use the parallel switch the starboard starts. If it is not the battery what am I missing?

Check your wiring, especially the ground.

Put a load tester on your battery first. If it is good, connect the load tester to your starter.

Is there a relay?
If so, can you get to it to make sure the connections on it are good or jump it to start the motor?

make sure the engine can be rotated over by hand.

He said it starts if the batteries are in parallel, so more amperage gets it to start. I'd say it's a starter going bad, or bad battery wires.

If you use a good quality set of jumper cables from battery to solenoid and engine ground and it starts right up with the key switch or at least cranks normally, clean cable connections or replace the cables. If it works with one jumper and not the other that would be a clue as to which battery cable to deal with.

If it doesn't crank connected to the solenoid battery terminal but starter spins if the jumper is moved from that terminal to the solenoid to starter wire connection, the solenoid would be suspect ( burnt contacts?)
