Today was a bit more positive news on the Erie Canal. Despite all the damage, they are making progress and the canal is being repaired quickly. Still it was evident while the waterway was still closed - trucks removing silt, dredges hard at work. Our 4.5' draft tugboat bumped bottom in the channel off Vischer Ferry in water that was supposed to be 12 feet deep. Oh well, at least thats why they do these inspection tours.
I also learned that there is at least one company that still runs real commercial barges on the canal! Thank goodness, a bit of history still exists in the 21st century...
