ERIE CANAL Update

Good news for the commercial boats and pleasure craft that have been trapped along the Erie Canal since Tropical Storm Irene. Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the canal will be opened between Nov. 24 and Dec. 8 in order to get the stranded boats home.

The closed section of the canal to the west is about 15 miles from me. Based on what I see, I'd be impressed if it opens before next year. Even if they are able to fix the locks by then, the canal will be so full of the debris that now sit in the dry bed of the canal, the canal would be impassable.
