I posted a question and a comment on another topic here and decided that it was worth a better review and response.

I visited Essex island a few years back and had a horrible experience with the "manager"

The facilities and layout were excellent but this individual was so bad I swore that I would never go back. The prior times that I went there it was excellent. I actually would like to go back but no one in my family would go there with me.

Anyone have a similar ecperience or was it isolated?
 
The "manager" is Dawn, who is one of the nicest and most accomodating people we have ever met. We have stayed there probably 15 years, and found it to be the most user friendly marina we have ever been at.

We are on our second dog, after the first one died, when we pulled with our new dog, she noticed immediately and came to our boat to find out what had happened.

There is not a friendlier marina in the Northeast.

Nor more expensive!

Only been there once but I will 2nd Hogan's comments. Very nice person.
 
We were there about 5 years ago. It was a nice stop for us but we didn't think it as special as others have. We happened to be there during a yacht club rendezvous and they were a tad bit unfriendly. That may have tarnished the experience for us.

Block $4 a foot vs Essex at $5 per foot last year.
 
John, when you add in the electric and "facility" charges, they are all pretty much the same. It goes back to what I heard about the meeting, the "agreed" that they could charge $5.00/ft, then came up with slightly different ways to charge it.

Is there any way humanly possible that you could use $15/day in electric on your boat??? That's about $450.00/month - how many houses use that much electricity???

I can. 2 1/2 tons of A/C, 2 refrigerators, big freezer, ice maker and large bait freezer.

I almost get my monies worth out of it.

Jonathan, even with all that, I bet you don't use more than $5.00/day. And if you do, then why don't they charge by how much you use? Why should a 28' boat with no AC and a small refrigerator pay the same as you do?

Joe, yes,that is what she looks like.

Not according to PSEG's monthly bill they kindly mail me once a month.

Then you are one of the few of us who gets his money's worth out east!
 
I simply loved Essex Island Marina, even the spiders were friendly. Very clean place. Each morning at the crack of dawn the staff would be out cleaning everything and removing webs. I will be going back at some point. Paying $4-5 plus electric seems a bit expensive, but I feel it’s worth it if you find a marina that has high standards and amenities.
