Nope. The Govenator wants to take us to 10% and beyond, but it hasn't happened yet. Given that ethanol is about 25% less efficient and the 10% variety increases emissions from most automobiles on the road by about 65%, they need to rethink their strategy. The big advantage of ethanol is that it reduces our dependence on foreign oil and also provides (subsidized?) income for the farmers.
And ethanol increases the CO2 output. Contrary to the reduction of global warming. And it takes quite a bit of fossil fuel to produce. They use coal to fire a lot of the furnaces and that is dirty stuff.
I've posted here many times that CA ethanol content is 5.6/5.7%.
I am trying to find out when/if this percentage will change. I'll post when I get more info.
Mucho beter that the E10 (like the East coast and the Mid West have), plus less humidity here - we do NOT have it as bad, but for how long I'll try to find out..
As stated previosuly - ethanol has mothing good to offer for the boating community.
One thing for sure, the prices sure jump up and down a lot. We should track marina prices on this forum. It would take a collective effort, but would save us all a bundle.
Just received this info from my employer:
_____________
Response: What is the current level of ethanol in Chevron's gasoline? Nominally, about 5.7% by volume.
Do all of the Chevron grades contain the same amount of ethanol? Yes
What are the levels of ethanol in other gasoline brands sold in California (are they all the same)? Virtually all of the gasoline currently sold in the state has about the same amount of ethanol.
Are there any CARB regulations or guidelines that will change the amount of ethanol in the future (short or long term)? There are currently no CARB regulations on the books that will change the amount, but there are drivers & efforts at both the state and federal level to increase the amount in the future.
