Marina info in Sacramento:

Sacramento City charges you by the foot. If you are in a 45 ft slip and you are 48 ft long, that is ok, but you will pay more than the 522. a month the 45ft slip costs...like, maybe $555. Chris really wants our Tolly back up here during the slow sales period coming up. I want to save some money.

An old friend called here a couple of days ago and visited for awhile (I was gone)...he told Chris some of the Sacramento Marinas will "negotiate" slip fees ... for the short term anyway.

Sac City has open 50ft slips right now. And about ten of the 45ft slips and so on. They are also raising their existing prices another 12% around July 1st. Poor management.

We are going by Riverview marina tomorrow. Their covered slips are only 16ft high, so we cannot fit there, but they have uncovered slips and end ties. The down side of this marina is that all the logs, etc. from heavy rains come past it first. That is, most of the local marinas are downstream from it. They have an attenuator to catch most of it, but I don't know how much, if any, gets past it.

Anyone familiar with it?

DLL,
Funny, I am thinking of going to Riverview as well - I live in the Tahoe area and it's about 45 min shorter drive, and I love the area with all the activity. It would be hard to leave Oxbow so I might see if I can find someone interested in trading slips for 6 months or so to check it out. I have heard Flutterby talk about the current and cold water in the American, but other than that, I really don't know the area. Any input from others will be read with interest!

Jim,
I was at Sac City Marina almost 5 years, then went to WillowBerm in Oct 2004. My brother-in-law had his boat in RiverView for a couple of years, so we have been there several times.

It is being renovated and the current owner has a pretty low occupancy rate.

What I hated about berthing in Sacramento was the limitations to where you could go. AND all the "No Wake" zones.

Sac City Marina is not a bargain. As I think I mentioned, they charge you by the foot and they will measure your boat. They have lots of empty slips in the City Marina and when they raise their rates 12% on July 1, they will be higher than WillowBerm with few of the things WB offers.

The rates posted on the web for Riverview do not seem to be in effect right now.

Hey, Jim, 'tis not I who has commented about the American River! My only first hand knowledge of the American below Folsom is the wing dam at the confluence with the Sac River........ [:-cry] [:-cry]

I took a drive up there this last weekend, and was happy to get back to my Oxbow home! I was actually looking at River Walk because of the ability to walk to all the good food, but it seemed like a really loud and young party place. Like they say, a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there! I am going to head up there and maybe spend a week or so next spring - get to know the Old Town area, The American, and the upper Sac. Should be a nice trip, then get back to my ltttle piece of paradise in Isleton...

Hey Jim, if you go to Sac in the spring, you will be fighting up hill all the way with strong currents. When the tide is "incoming", the downhill current slows somewhat but doesn't stop. On the good news side, returning home is quick and easy: just ride the current all the way!!!

Count on twice the time and fuel usage to get up the river in the spring, but half the time and fuel to return home again.

Flutter,

Good advice! I was up 2 years back for the jazz festival but in my little (fast) 27, it really didn't matter as I was on top of the water most of the time! Should be fun.

Jim

The rates are much lower than what is posted on their site. They are at about 38% occupancy and have a lot of flexibility. What ever the website says, it may be as low as 60% of the published number, and the amount includes electric and water.

We limped in Saturday night with the Stbd engine shut down and I was so tired I could not hardly stand....I told my two deck hands :) to tie on to the posts, not the cleats, as they are too small. I don't remember doing anything but driving home.

Only Sac City won't negotiate right now. These low prices will go away around May 1.... at that point we take it back to Alameda, to the sales docks.

Ask for John, the owner of RiverView, he can negotiate the deals.

DLL I'm so glad you made it back home ok, but I do worry that you over did it that day. Was the Admiral with you? Wasn't there anyone else who could have helped you drive the boat and your vehicle? I hope you are able to enjoy your boat without any hassles a few more times prior to taking it to Alameda!

Take care!

Flutterby,
My wife won't drive after dark if she can help it. So I drove home.
She drove the Tolly about a third of the way, but with the port engine pushing to stbd, she did not like driving it.

We were at the boat today, for an hour or so. Tied it up a little better. Hooked water up and bolted our steps to the dock.

As for "over doing it", you are right.

DLL, What happened to have to shut down the stbd engine? Do you need a hand with it? I live in Sacto and will be here this weekend. My slip is at Moore's Riverboat.

Dave and Kalan2000,
We are going to try to get to the boat for awhile tomorrow. IF I have a fuel solenoid, I will try to replace the existing one with it. And I will try to follow the other ideas.

We have had family here the last couple of days, so I missed your kind offer Kalan2000.
Moore's Marina? Is that upstream from Riverview?

Sacriverfolks, I will ask them tomorrow and try to let you know later. They are talking about putting wifi in next summer.

I woke up around 3am again today. 4 hours sleep. Just when I think I have the opiates out of my system they seem to interact or something. I am told by the doctors to be patient.

The ramp down into Riverview is very steep and very slippery when wet. Chris uses Tolly to help her up the ramp. Real cute to see Tolly applying 4-paw drive to pull her.

We haven't named the sea lion who lives on our spot yet. It is missing a lower canine on the port side. We are considering "Snaggle Tooth" or "Gummy". No threat to us that we can see...as long as we respect it (not sure if it is a male or female and don't plan on getting close enough to find out :)

Take care.....Dave

DLL,

Moore's Riverboat is between Willowberm and Korths near the mouth of the Moke (by the restaurant and Delta Boat Works).

How about "Fang" for a sea lion name? Hope it doesn't make a mess of the area, especially getting too comfortable on a swimstep.

Fang is good. He arrived as we were leaving, but stayed off the dock while my Service Dog was there. Hard to understand that... since our dog has only acknowledged "Fang" once and there has been no barking, etc.

He cruises up and down the river while we watch him...Chris took some photos last time.

It is real steep going down to the marina. Low river status and all. Wish my cart had a hand brake on it. I still have this idea of getting a 4 wheel mobility scooter and putting a hitch on it somewhere...so I can pull the little cart behind me.

I swapped out the solenoid today and it cranks like a new engine, but does not start. The hand pump for ...what is the word...priming it is on the far side of the engine. My back voted no for crawling around there to manually prime it.

Here is the tricky part. When I turn the key on (think accessory on your car) I get no buzzer sound from the glow plugs. The port side engine has the buzzing sound. I tried both helms and it cranks from both. The fuel gage jumps up to full, but the generator and water temp do not move. Of course, without it running, it does not have input from the generator and of course, is not warm enough to move the temp gauge. The longest we cranked it was a timed ten seconds.

I can't remember where the fuel solenoid is so I settled for staring at the engine for awhile. :)

I did get the height measurements for going under bridges again. With 400+ gallons of diesel and a full 100 gallons of water, we are approx. 17'9" to the top of the davit. I could dismantle the end and might get it down to 17'5". I will print that info out and tape it to something on the upper/lower helms.

Anyone know of a decent CAT mechanic around Sacramento?
