Excitement At Bethel Island Saturday Night!

Apparently some guy was driving a stolen vehicle and tried to outrun the sheriff's dept. I guess he didn't know where he was going and ended up coming over the BI Bridge around 6PM. He jumped out of the vehicle and ran off into the empty lots behind the levy near D'Anna's Boat Sales. We had sheriff's cars and a helicopter looking for him. All of this was going on as folks were gathering for dinner at the San Joaquin Yacht Club. So the sheriffs had lots of traffic in the area to contend with too. I haven't heard the outcome of this incident........
 
I hope they caught the miscreant. Unless escape was by hot air balloon or boat, the only way off of Bethel Island is by one of two narrow bridges.
 
Actually there is one one bridge connected to Bethel Island. The other bridge on Dutch Slu goes to Jersey Island, not BI.

I tried to find info in the East Contra Costa Times yesterday, but nothing came up. If anyone knows the outcome, please post here!
 
hmm... If I was going to throw a dragnet around Bethel Is., I'd sure cover that bridge on Jersey Is. Road, too.
 
They had him surrounded near Stone Rd/Bethel Island Rd/Riverview Rd/ SJYC access road. I don't think he knew the area or he wouldn't have come over the bridge to begin with!!!!! Crooks are stupid, ya know.
 
I guess he could have followed the levee until he reached the next town. [:-banghead]
 
That is a long walk and I'm sure the helicopter would have spotted him!
