Just got home from a fantastic day of boating and dining!
Left early this morning with another boat and good friends from Haverstraw Marina and headed up to Hyde Park Marina (Poughkeepsie) for a luncheon reservation at one of the restaurants at the Culinary Institute of America. What an excellent combination this is for a full day excursion. The weather and water were excellent both ways. The dining experience was first rate and it couldn't have been a more perfect day.
Hyde Park Marina charges $1 per foot for a dock and dine visit and the very short cab ride to the CIA is $4 per person (we walked back to the marina). You should make reservations at the restaurant of your choice beforehand as they have several lunch seatings for each restaurant.
If you have never visited the CIA (this was our first time) I promise you will not be disappointed.
I don't know how busy they are during the weekend, but if possible, pick a weekday and I think you will enjoy your visit more. Just one more great thing you can do on the Hudson.

We have eaten at the CIA several times. The food has always been outstanding!

John, you should have waved as you went under the Walkway! I was up there this afternoon. What a view, and yes the river looked like glass today.

In the past, dinner reservations were always required and they had to be made well in advance. We've enjoyed the Escoffier Room a few times and never been disappointed. By the way it looks like the marina at Shadows on the Hudson is open also.

I'm going there the end of the month for lunch/district meeting. Have not been there in years. Look forward to it.

My buddy went to Shadows Labor Day weekend. He was very impressed with the service, including transportation to the walking bridge and a water taxi to Front Street, Newburgh.

Can't imagine why you would want to water taxi back to Newburgh from Shadows. Anyway, on our way back down yesterday we cruised very slowly past Shadows to give it a closer look. It is definitely on the list for a visit sometime later this season. It has a very long outer dock parallel to the river and a pretty long side dock perpendicular to the river, which looks like it could all be for dock and dine visits. However, I'm not sure how much protection the outer dock offers the slipholders on the inside. Also, couldn't tell if the outer docking had any protection on the edges, so I would approach with fenders deployed.

Shadows transient rate is a bit steep - $3.00/foot + electric.

Wow, they must think they are in Long Island Sound Hogan.

Yep, I told him I don't think I would ever join him at Shadows, might as well go up to Roundout Creek instead. He has a very good friend in the area they were visiting so it made sense for them. Perhaps a nice stop to eat on the way to someplace else.

We were surprised with their fees as well. We did walk the docks about a week or so ago, and the boats were rocking. The crews were busy with the anchoring system so I am not sure if it is complete yet.
