February boating

Just got back from 7 days in Puerto Rico. A friend of mine has a place down there and this winter bought a boat to keep there also. We got out on the boat 2 days, didn't get too far as seas were somewhat rough from the steady winds but there were a couple of nearby islands where you could get a mooring or anchor in a sheltered spot. Temps were in the 80s and water was warm enough to go swimming although it had a slight chill when you first went in. Had a good time, looking forward to getting out on my own boat in a few weeks.

Yeah, Mike, I was thinking the same thing, sad to see those posts when he was talking about their move which never happened. The Puerto Rico trip he mentions is when he first found out he was sick...

Funny you should bring back this thread though ink, my friends are down at their place in PR right now, maybe even out on the boat.

No problem, I realize that wasn't your intention. Art was a key member here, organized trips and gatherings and was a very good friend to many of us. Unfortunately he passed away last June.
 
Ink, no need to apologize, those of that had the pleasure of knowing Art will never forget him.
 
Actually, I like seeing Art's old posts. Seems like he is still with us that way.

Irene posts in the women's forum using his signature line, so he lives with us that way also.
 
Needless to say I feel terrible.

...but I have to say, it's nice to be around those who never forget good friends!

Spooky at first, until I saw the dates.

Seeing Arts post brings back fond memories....why is it only the good die young?

Shoulda looked at the miniscule font of the dates first.
 
Wow! this thread really threw me for a loop. I nevered noticed the dates either. I guess that is a good thing because it kind of reminds all of us that true friendship is really immeasurable and no amount of time could ever take that away. Based on what I read, being a newbee to boating and all, I really wish that I could have know this person. It seems as though he was the kind of person who's company one would really enjoy.
So, here's to your good friend Art. Don't know what he had in real life but betcha he's on the water in the boat of his dreams now!!

Art was a great guy who would help anyone who asked. Art worked for the USCG at the New York Vessel Traffic Service. When an opening came up, Art helped me write a resume and put me through a mock interview process. I did not get that position, however, A few months later I found myself piloting a vessel in New York harbor. Unknow to me that Art was sick, I emailed him for advice about the harbor. Art emailed me back that day and invited me to call him on the phone so we can chat. I emailed back that I'll call at the end of the week. Art passed away two days later. I was overwhelmed by the fact that Art was willing to help me dispite being so ill. I'm glad you brought up that old post and seeing Art on the board again!

I had to read the post twice before it sunk in. Finally saw the dates and realized what happened. It does make you stop and realize we don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Another reason to enjoy today to its fullest.

Art was a great guy, Only had the pleasure to meet him once but he left a lasting impression that will be with me forever. As I have said many times, there are a great bunch of people here on B.E. and we have made quite a few special friends from the boating world.
