For those of us that are not away on vacation just wanted to remind you that Bear Mountain fireworks are tonight...

Haverstraw is the 3rd and Peekskill is the 4th...

Can you see them from the river? I thought they shoot them off on the top and assumed the treeline would cover them.

Yes. Bear Mountain puts on a decent show. From the water it is a great view.

Just be careful of the "mad dash" at the end by the boaters who can't spare a second to get back to the dock.

I'd also be careful of the night riding this weekend thanks to the storms and the possible debris in the water.

No one really talks about the Macy's fireworks. Why is that? I have a few friends in Newport and hoboken north marinas. We were planning on meeting them on the 4th. Is it a zoo, or maybe just not worth it?

From what I understand it's as bad (or worse) than Times Square on New Years Eve. Alot of hammered pilots forgetting to turn their nav lights on, etc. I had tried to get a transient slip so that I could come back the next day, but it just wasn't worth it. There should be some good fireworks up the Hudson around by you or up further north towards Haverstraw.

I hear that. I've been very skeptical about it, but still open. we thought the east river would be like times square, but the hudson in the hoboken vicinity would be better. any advice from experience would be greatly appreciated.

I was there too and we had a great time. Waited for about fifteen minutes before weighing anchor and then headed out nice and slow. Did not encounter any real a$$holes except for the few that had to jump up on plane immediately and blast past the rest of us. But the ride back down the river, with the full moon directly above and ahead of us was just super. After awhile, when radar was clear, we too go up on plane until we got to the entrance of Haverstraw Marina. All in all, a great evening on the water.

We watched the fireworks up in Poughkeepsie outside Bowdon Park Saturday night.
It was a great show and afterwards the lightning show from the Kingston area was pretty interesting too. It did rain on us some back to Newburgh.

All in all was a great day. In spite of the oil pressure switch problems we had earlier in the day.
Many thanks to Joe over at West Shore Marine for lending me some small hand tools.

7/1 Roundout Creek Fireworks
7/4 Newburgh Fireworks
7/7 Westpoint Fireworks

Kingston's fireworks kicked royal butt! BTW, if you can't find a marina home, try the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Doesn't get much better, between the jazz festival, all the food, and the excellent fireworks!

There won't be any disagreement from us. Ever since they pulled them back into town and started using the property on the south side of the creek they have been terrific.

We're in Newport marina and I plan on sitting in the slip to watch the fireworks. I'd rather not risk the traffic jam.

The weather is pretty rotten down here. We're down at LibLanding. We were planning on heading to Jersey tomorrow but we're going to stall for a day.

Well the 4th was a wash for us her in NY. I went to the fioreworks at Bowline last night, but my wife wanted my kids to run around and listen to the music, so we went by car. I sat there looking out at the moored boats, envious that there were a ton of you haveing a great time. Now granted we had fun at Bowline, but with the bad weather reports, we were not going out by boat this evening. Maybe there will be some rescheduled for the weekend.

Th eEast River was flat clam and a little rain never hurt anyone. We watched from north of the barges, and it was spectacular.

I know. we watched from the shore at the park and we could have taken the dink out in the harbor. Everything laid down right when the fireworks were about to start.

The Bowline fireworks were some of the best I have ever seen. That said, the volume of talentless, ignorant and dangerous boaters amazed me. No less than 6 vessels with no nav lights( I almost hit one) and two vessels who's captains asked me to move while I was at anchor. Baffling! I firmly believe there should be a boating licensing exam equal in difficulty to the admissions test to Harvard. Hell, if you want to drive a jetski, it's 8 hours of training! If you want to drive a 50 foot Hattaras all you need is a bank account
Baffling!!!

Dan, how was the view from Liberty Landing? Are you close enough or are the fireworks kind of far away? Might be an interesting future July 4th stop for us.
