Hit the lake this morning and caught 6 nice Specks and 2 nice Redfish. I also caught 4 White/Sand Bass, but didn't know what they were. We don't normally have them here in saltwater.
All on topwater lures.
Water temps starting to fall, just wish the air temps would too. 84 deg. here today.

Striped Bass...

doesn't look to be a hybrid...

up here, the min on that is 28"

So many great ways to cook that bass...

Now that you can make a great pan seared Striped Bass with crabmeat cream sauce.

Been getting them in the 30-40# range the past few weeks out in Montauk but this weekend's weather is not cooperating.

Good fishin!

LSU fisheries agent confirmed it was hybrid Striper. We don't have wild Striped Bass down here.
LDWF released 300,000 of them North of the Saltwater Barrier in 2009. I caught this one just
a few miles South of the barrier.
He said if you trim the red meat off of it, it is good eating.

Yes, once filleted and skinned you can make a shallow vee to slice the dark meat out. Lately, I've been leaving the skin on and pan searing which, accompanied with the right sauce is mighty fine eatin. Once cooked, the dark meat is easily forked away or eaten.

I was wondering how a Striper got all the way over there...

Looks like a different strain then the usual hybrids which are usually more round and bodies not as long. The snout looks different too.

Finesse fish are perfect for them.

LSU fisheries agent confirmed it for me.
He said they hybrids usually have broken and/or odd stripes too.

yes, typically broken stripes and the bodies are blunter (if that makes sense).

well, still good/fun to catch and great eating too.

tight lines!
